Hi! I'm looking for some examples of layouts with pictures that seem to "pop" off the page. It's hard for me to describe what I'm after, but I'm doing a layout from my husband's last marathon, and I want to use one of the pictures and make it look like he's running out of the photo. Make sense?

Thanks for your help. Can't wait to see your layouts!

I used Cassie Jones' perspective tutorial at Designer Digitals to achieve the 3d look...

Here's an easy way to do it with Ake's Pop It Frames! She's got 2 sets here at Scrapbook Elements. (http://store.scrapbook-elements.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9039)

If so, they're really not as hard as they look. I was so intimidated by the thought of trying it, but I'm so glad I did because it's not hard at all. Here's a basic tutorial. Let me know if any of these steps don't make sense.

1. Extract the subject of your layout (I suggest doing the whole person, not just the part that will be extending out of the photo).
2. Duplicate the selection so it is its own layer.
3. Load your frame or draw a box between the background layer and the new extraction layer.
4. Use your warp or transform tool (sorry, I did this one in PSP, so I'm not sure which tool this will correspond to in PS, but I'm sure you'll know which one can do this) and drag the top 2 corners closer together until you get the angle you're looking for.
5. Select the area outside the frame on the background layer and delete.
6. Merge the visible layers and you're done.

Voila! You've created your Out of the Box photo. For this particular photo, I added a very light drop shadow to help it stand out from the remaining background but that will really depend on your photo.

Someone asked about a tut....there is an extraction tutorial (http://www.digiscrappingtutorials.com/Index.asp?Type_ID=1) over at DigiScrapping Tutorials. You can just follow that to some extent. I also have a photoshop action that walks you through the process with a help doc too. The action is bundled with a couple of others RIGHT HERE (http://store.scrapbook-elements.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=109&products_id=9577).

I love Cassie Jones' tutorial... Comes complete with elements... and instructions on how to do the drop shadow as well! All of her tutorials are for PS and PSE. I used the "Extractions with Dimension (http://www.designerdigitals.com/ecom/product_info.php/products_id/3606)" tutorial.

I've never got a comment - so it seems to be not really the best, but maybe it will help a little...

FUN layout everyone! I did one of these a long time ago but I don't think I ever posted it anywhere- will have to go look for it!

The two things that makes a big difference is the angle of the frame and shadows of the extracted part. :)

I do have some tutorials available to teach these techniques.

This first one is all about perspective:

http://www.designerdigitals.com/ecom/images/LP412739.jpg (http://www.designerdigitals.com/ecom/product_info.php/products_id/3579)

and this one focuses on extractions, and includes everything you need to make this layout with your own photos:
