Hi ladies :)
I usually scrap 12 x 12 or 24 x 12 but I want to make a book for one of my family members and want to do an 8.5 by 11 book.
My question is this...which do you prefer or feel is better to use...
the rectangle style <------->
or the standard 8.5 by 11 style??
Thanks for any advice. *LOL* I feel like I am starting over and it's just a size! :D

If it is getting put into a regular scrapbook album, then I personally prefer to use 8.5x11 (portrait). However, I did a photobook (Shutterfly.com) for my husband for Christmas in the 11x8.5 (landscape) size. I love how it turned out. Just my thoughts. :)

they are :D I think she meant portrait and landscape :)
My CT makes oodles of layouts in that size and she does both landscape and portrait, you can view her work in her slideshow here:

She made her pages into quickpages for me and I have her 92 landscape ones in the store, still putting together her portrait ones for the store.

www.blurb.com (http://www.blurb.com) have great options for that size and photo templates to.

Personally, I prefer portrait over landscape but I do occasionally put together landscape pages. I just prefer the portrait orientation most of the time.

I used to like portrait best but...
I made 2 landscape albums at Shutterfly and were sooo awesome (even better than 8x8) that now I'm a landscape girl. Even whe 80% of my LOs are square

When I do that size I like landscape. But it might depend on if you are getting a photobook printed on what your choice of printing company offers (I know some only offer landscape).
I love the different space of landscape pages, so I scrap that way. I'm not sure which companies offer photobooks in the portrait orientation (if any?)
Kat you know me I'm a 12 x 12 girl also, however I'd go landscape, portrait looks like it should be 12 x 12 to me *lol* Having said that I personally would find portrait easier to do PMSL! I'm no help....sorry!

I print using a photo developing company, not hardbound books, so I do portrait orientation. It's easier to find portrait orientation albums. But I really like the look of landscape layouts. So, I usually end up scrapping 2 page layouts, so that my canvas is 17x11. Feel free to take a look at my gallery. MOST of the recent layouts that look like they are landscape layouts are actually 2 page portrait orientation layouts.

I do both. It really depends on the page design I want to use--some work better as portrait and others as landscape. I scrap portrait more often.

Viovio (http://www.viovio.com) does portrait 8.5x11 books in both hard and softcovers. If I'm not scrapping in 12x12 then I prefer portrait - maybe because it feels more like square format to me than landscape.
