View Full Version : Aren't you tired of Politics and Finantial Disasters?

I know I'll have a gazillion post bashing me but I feel the need to say my opinion too.

I was away of the board for a couple of weeks because my grandmother passed away and I had to go to Panama to be with the family and when I came back all the forums (not only here) were swamped with politics, polls, opinions, fights and more... To the point that the Politics threads are overpowering the scrapbooking ones.

I'm aware that we are a community... a community where the high percentage are North American and everyone is entitled to have opinions. But I (and this is totally personal) come to the forums to relax, to let the creative me flow and sometimes (depending on the site) have a laugh or two.

I do have a gazillion of problems and the financial crisis is affecting my business as I work with commodities and exports but lately so many threads about the subject is overwhelming me. I feel we are lacking on scrapbooking to be slowly turn into Larry King (of course this is just an exaggeration, but you have the idea).

I'm not saying that discussing current events is wrong or I am condemning any of the member hanging on these threads. I'm just saying in my personal opinion and I would love to see more threads about actual scrapbooking.

Hugs, Oriana

Oriana: There is actually a Politics subforum here at DST now, so all of those threads should be there now.

Many prayers sent on the loss of your grandmother :(

Oriana, I can very well see your point. That said, I think that is why Shannon gave us a separate area away from all the fun stuff. That way you aren't bothered by it in the Chat area, and if you want to participate, you know where you can find it. Just be thankful that it only happens every four years for those of us in the U.S. Yes, we are very passionate about this country and all have our own views.

ETA: I also meant to add that I am so sorry for your loss (((hugs))).

I just find it fascinating and eye-opening. I read both sides to get a pulse of the current opinions. To see so many people get passionate about their views only serves to prove that we haven't crawled under a rock in resignation over our current situations. I mostly view these as lively conversations (at times, not) and it will all be over in a few short weeks.

I think I should start to check the sub forums one by one instead of just hit "Todays Posts" LOL
But I'm still alittle sick of hearing the same things again and again

Me too! I just try to look the other way but sometimes I get drawn in - I am staying busy with other things. Sorry for your loss! And I know sometimes sad things like that can make these other little irritations seem more pesky - hugs.

So sorry about your grandmother, but glad you had the opportunity to be with your family at such a difficult time.

So sorry for your loss. It sometimes takes a tragedy to help us refocus on the truly important things and I can see how you would feel that politics and financial disasters do not rank up there right now as terribly important.

Oh I do think are terribly important... but I read the papers, see CNN and check Blomberg and LME before I hit the forums. There I hope and expect to find the news... here I just want pretty things and embellishments... hehehe

Oh gosh, I did not mean that you did not think that the election was important, just that loss has a way of changing how we prioritize things. I hope you did not take offense.
