"A simple rule dictates my buying: Be fearful when others are greedy, and be greedy when others are fearful," Buffett wrote in the paper.
Talking to my husband the other day and he said that he thought that this "financial crisis" was brought about "on purpose" in order for the rich to be able to buy all of these stocks at very low prices because in the end they're going to make out on this. I thought he made a point at one possibility. To be honest it is really hard to understand all of this and be able to believe anyone.
Thoughts?

Honestly, I wish I had a few thousand lying around to buy stocks since they're so very low.

I've wondered from the beginning if this was a possibility. I love how the oil prices dropped right tat the same time- I think to serve as a small distraction for Joe-6 Pack and the middle guys.

We're still buying at our normal rate. I wish we could afford to buy more.

On Mad Money the other night, he was recommending Family Dollar Stores (I think FDO is their abbrev.).

We were wondering the same things with these huge drops and then all of a sudden they gain so much the next day. It's just not normal. If there is another big drop and we have money we'd be buying more too.

It goes back to what I've always heard is that the ONLY people who really make big money in the stock market are the very rich.

My cynical mind wonders if the money-men didn't shore up the insane-loan people long enough to get their money, and their cronies' money, out of the market and then let it collapse on everybody else. We've all heard for a long time now about the sub-prime mortgages, the no-down payment loans, balloon mortgages, arms . . . It was only a matter of time before the pyramid scheme collapsed. I feel like it was insider-trading at the highest corporate levels. Hmmm, and Martha Stewart went to jail over $60k. I'd really like to see how the crash effected not only corporate giants, but all the millionaires running for office now, too. (Wouldn't mind seeing Bush's or Clinton's portfolios, either.) I hate being so suspicious, maybe if I had a few hundred thousand to invest I'd feel differently. . .

My husband is an economist and does not really agree (although he has said that there will be many that WILL make money). Deregulation, in his opinion, was the demise. Well, deregulation and extreme greed. lol

Yeah, I'm sure he's right. Which begs the question - How much government is too much and when is it too little?

My husband and I have actually tossed around the idea of getting into the stock market right now while the prices are low. We really don't have the money to go big.....maybe just a couple shares of one or two stocks and that would be the cheap stock. LOL
Whether this was a planned ploy.....well, I guess conspiracy theories will abound in any given crisis. Look at all the conspiracy theories from 9-11.

I know we've used "extra" money to put in our mutual fund so we can buy more shares while they're "on sale."
