I thought she was pretty cute, I'm even giving a link to the videos from the Huff Post!!
PALIN ON SNL (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/10/18/sarah-palin-on-snl-with-t_n_135887.html)
Also making a great appearance was Mark Wahlberg, who reportedly hated the sketch about him a week ago! So let's laugh shall we? After all, even McCain and Obama did that at the Alfred E. Smith benefit dinner, at which they both were rather charming and funny.
Obama: My middle name is Steve. Barack "Steve" Obama.
McCain: Barack has a pet name for me: "George Bush."

The dinner was a joy to watch. Makes you wonder where that part of the canidates have been all this time.
The part I thought was rather funny, while the 2 canidates were doing their part at the dinner, did you notice the older gentleman in the background eating. I think he ate his dessert and every one else's around him. I couldn't stop laughing at him either.

I don't think they really did though. It was done by someone else because she said it to personally hardcore for her. I'm glad she didn't do it because it is a little disrepectful. I'm just starting to get tired of the people with making fun of each other. Skits and stuff like these haven't been helping and are part of what is getting people so burnt out is keep beating the same junk over and over and trying to pretend some serious things are jokes. Yeah we know Obama went to Rev Wrights church. Everyone already knows the stuff they preach there. It's his right to believe that stuff if he wants and some people think she looks like a hot teacher. Just move on... This stuff is part of what takes away from the issues it seems like anymore. :shrug

I read this and walked away for a bit, chewing on it, as it were! :)
I know where you're coming from because initially I thought the same thing. But after watching the dinner especially I just realized that if I'm tired of fighting (which I am) I'm sure the candidates are as well and it's nice to kick back and just make jokes. But yes, I can totally see what you mean about making light of serious issues.

Oh I know what you mean. Yeah it's funny but the more I watch it the more it just makes me even more bitter about both of them. None of this election is about helping us anymore. It's all about their lives and what they are going to do. Hello. Lots of Americans needing things fixed around here people. LOL

I'm not a fan of Palin by any means, but I thought she did great on SNL. She's a natural for acting . . . if this politics thing doesn't work out for her . . .
oh, and the rap? I've been watching SNL long enough to know that her saying she didn't want to do it was in the script. She was never going to do it -- it was written with Amy Poeler in mind. (And yes, I was worried about Amy going into labor, too! LOL)

I watched and thought it was all very entertaining but I couldn't help but think it's just not a good idea for her to do this. While it's great to stand up and show that you're a good sport and don't take the satire personally, I think her participation, to the point of chair dancing during the rap, shows poor judgement.
If I was supporting a McCain/Palin ticket I'd be shaking my head and wondering what she was thinking. As it is?... I'm shaking my head:nope and wondering what she was thinking.:think

I think Palin was a good sport with it all and I enjoyed the part she had with Lorne Michaels but the dancing in the chair during the rap made me cringe a little.

I just watched the Weekend Update skit. Sarah Palin was just reading the script and saying that she wasn't going to do it was just part of the script. IMHO. Though Todd Palin and the moose were pretty funny. I think that Sarah Palin has a good sense of humor otherwise she wouldn't have even stayed on the set for it.

I think she does have an excellent sense of humor and is very witty. I also forgot to mention the cameo by Alec Baldwin, LMAO!

I can see both sides of the argument as far as making light of serious issues. But as someone who always appreciates humor, no matter the time or place, I do like to see politicians (and former politicians) when they appear on shows like SNL, David Letterman, The Daily Show, etc. A lot of times they'll still stick to their stump speeches and party platforms, but when they get a little self-deprecating and silly it reminds me that they're just people. And that at the end of the day, despite all that's said about them, they're still able to find a way to laugh at it. I'm not sure if I could handle people saying that many negative things about me publically (on either side) and not go home and cry about it. LOL
A lot of times when I see attack ads, or negative media coverage, I wonder how it's impacting these candidates on an emotional level. It's so much scrutiny, and they're just human beings, afterall. I always like the interviews in the months FOLLOWING an election, because once out from under the media spotlight you get to hear a lot more genuine analysis of how candidates felt about the course of events.

I guess I missed the dinner portion....I'll watch the show tonight. I agree with Jen...it wasn't that Palin didn't want to do it, it wasn't ever meant for her to do the rap song. Of course the words in the song repulse me (scrap them? NOT me!!!), but Amy did such a hilarious job of it. I could've never done that while pregnant (ok...couldn't do it now either without huffing and puffing).

my mom still chides me for "running" (I say I was walking quickly) down my stairs when I was 7 days past due with Jake. LOL. I was still pretty mobile . . . yeah, but every week I've been expecting to hear that Amy's had that kid already! ;)
