Do you think Barack Obama and/or John McCain (or the VP's for that matter) should be invited to this summit?

Well some say since they aren't on the finance committee it's not their jobs. They are still only members of congress. If other members not on the committee go then yes, if not probably not. They aren't world leaders until January offically.

My first reaction is no because they are not a world leader yet. I think they'll be briefed, but as much as I hate to say this, the Bush administration has to take the reins on this one. Though if anything I think the Leaders of the House and Senate should be there since they will be the ones instrumental in getting things passed in Congress.

Good point, however I was thinking long term, one of them will be president so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to include them now.

Nope. Neither are there yet so none of it is their call beyond their senator seats.

Thanks for your opinion. I think in a worldwide summit, it would be good to get this kind of exposure as early as possible. These are the leaders they will be working with in the next 4 years. No they are not on the financial committee and they will still need to get "buy-in" from Congress on whatever decisions are made.
I just realized that the date is after the election so we will know who the future president will be (barring recounting and such). I think at least the president-elect should be invited to sort of begin working with these world leaders because the problem is not going to be resolved by the end of this year.

No, I don't. A lot can happen between the election and inauguration - i.e. there may be another stimulus package. Let Bush wrap up his end.
I'm sure the President-elect will know most of what is going on and will be formulating a plan.

Updated article, it doesn't say whether the president elect will be invited to attend but they will seek input from the winner>

Input is okay, but it's still not their job yet. Just in case it doesn't work they should let Bush take the blame on it and start their presidency fresh when they are sworn in instead of possibly bad choices even before that day.

No matter what they will face this when they go into office, which makes it their job once they get elected. It's not a time to place blame, it's a time to be part of the resolution. I for one am glad that the president-elect will be included in some way.
