Yeah it's called the markets take care of themselves and have been artifically inflated by those wanting to make a profit. Yeah sorry I'm still on that kick. I haven't been convinced otherwise yet. I think most of this entire economic thing was because we've been taken advantage of lately and finally we got to a breaking point because we can't afford to keep it up.

Thank you I believe this also! There can NOT be such a sharp decrease in demand that all of a sudden, hours/days into this whole financial mess that everyone stopped driving, flying and using gas, so that the oil prices finally are going back to PRE inflated prices!
"artifically inflated by those wanting to make a profit" Hopefully they are all happy with themselves and have done a good enough job of spreading the WEALTH to all their fellow ultra rich pals!

someone explain to me how what the oil people are doing isn't price fixing? because I remember when digital scrapping first started, designers couldn't talk about how much to charge for a typical kit because THAT could be considered price fixing?

I don't care how it's happening. My dh said gas was down to $2.90 in town today. Although, I did find it interesting how Iran and Venezuala wanted to cut production even more than what was cut. Greedy dictators.

They stated that they were also going to let some wealth trickle down to those poor consumers who had to pay those prices the last few years:rofl2:rofl2:rofl2! Sorry, feeling snarky today.
That is my understanding, too. But, no they would "price gouge" us would they?

I just got gas, it was $2.19 in Des Moines. Then I had a receipt from my grocery store - it's a station affiliated with the store - so I got 3 cents off/gallon, then I paid cash, so I got another 5 cents off a gallon. $2.11/gallon. If I wasn't pregnant, I might have done cart wheels up to the door.

Hey don't worry. I was a competitive gymnastic as a child. I tried to do a backwalkover right over I had my first for some kids in an afterschool program I was running because I lost a bet and I almost seriously killed myself. If anything I taught those middle schoolers not to go out and get pregnant because that is what happens to you if you do.
Where do you all think the gas will drop too?

I keep hoping it will get under $2. I don't know how low it will go.
I have a feeling if they cut production to much there is going to be a call for other world leaders to take action. With the world economy like it is they need to realize that people can't afford to pay $4 US dollars on average - on know it's more in other countries- for a gallon of gas.
They are going to cut off their nose to spit their faces. They can either have people driving and buying gas, using their oil. Or they can cut production down to nothing, have people really cutting down on driving completely, whether it be car pooling, biking, public transport etc.
I can say my habits haven't gone back to what they used to be even though gas is down right now. I used to be on the go all day long. Now I only go to the grocery store if I do my one big trip a month or if I'm already out for something that's necessary - such as taking my daughter to preschool. We don't go to my mom's 2 or 3 times a week anymore. (She lives about 30 minutes away) Now we go 1 time every week or two. And she stops by when she is doing something she had to come to Des Moines for. I used to drive the girls around when Jordan had soccer practice because Alyce would usually fall asleep on the drive. Now, I wouldn't even consider wasting gas like that.
If they try to drive up gas prices more, I bet more of us will find better ways to conserve. Now, if only I could afford a nice green car right now. That would be awesome!

Yep and when I got my license in 2002 I remember 1.10... then I remember starting work in a neighboring city after I graduated in 2003 that had gas like 20 cents more expensive... and I was bitchin' about 1.39 a gallon! Oh and then when I was pregnant with Brooklynn in 2004 it had hit $1.85
Then toward the middle-late of 2005 my husband came home from work and was baffled... Gas just hit $3.00 a gallon (this is when it had his 3 and went back down into 2) After the initial $3.00 mark in 2005 I just felt like crying... and since then I can't really remember when gas was as cheap as it is now.

I remember in 11th grade there being a gas war between the Sunoco station and the Speedway station across the street. It was $.85 a gallon. After the gas war ... gas was still about $.89, a pack of cigarettes were $1.55 for Marlboro, a gallon of milk was a little over $2. It is sick really.

Yeah and with the Marlboro's they would sell them to me with a 'note' from my gram or mom saying it was okay to sell them to me LMAO. That was back in the end of the 80's when gas was less than a buck. Its funny to look back and see how things have changed and Im glad they are more stricter on ciggie purchases now. Well there is so much promise of alternative stuff now. No one really talks about the climate anymore either. When it comes to depression and survival that isn't the first thing on most people's mind if they need food and the farmers can't produce it without using gas. It's been pushed back just like immigration. I still don't think people will ever go back to using it like they did though. It will drasticly help business though. It has one of the biggest problems we were having over here is that we couldn't move goods and many farms had huge losses because of fuel. Our food prices have gone up like 15-20% probably since June/July.

The food going up has been drastic!. I have been spending atleast 50.00 a more a week since the gas prices have gone up. Fresh fruit and vegs are killing us here, oh yeah and laundry detergent who can afford almost 20.00 for a large bottle of Tide?:eek Eat or wash laundry?

We order Planet detergent in bulk off Amazon. With free shipping and they put out decent like $20 off coupons occasionally. You can get a years worth of good stuff for $30-40 if you watch their coupons. I can only get hypoallergenic stuff for my kids and to use additive free stuff for our cloth diapers. That stuff is awesome.

It is ridculous, isn't it?. I've changed my spending dramatically. For example, I used to use only Tide and never watched whether it was on sale or if I had a coupon. Now I rarely spend more the $2 or $3 on a 64 load bottle of detergent. I track the sales, save my coupons, go to stores that double coupons, buy the best deal regardless of brand (but conscious of High Efficiency and smell), and stock up when I can get it good and cheap. I doubt I'll go back to my old shopping behavior. The gas price hike has taught me a great deal about careful spending.

Right now I have a cabinet full of All small and mighty HE. I think I paid under $3 a bottle for it. I shop CVS, earn extra care bucks and use them. I got the ALL when they had it on BOGO and I had coupons for $1 off 2, I think. If you haven't checked it out before, sites like afullcup.com or slickdeals.net have CVS/Target/Walmart/etc. seperate forums and they match up the weekly deals with current coupons and you can find the best places to go for each thing. I don't like to store hop, so I just keep an eye on the stores I hit regularly and make weekly plans based only on the sales and coordinating coupons. Last week I was able to get windex, pledge, scrubbing bubbles and fantastic for .50 cents a bottle.

We're dealnews people. Love that place if I'm looking for stuff.
You can get a lot of rebates that make medicine free at RiteAid. We stocked up all of our cold/flu/sinus stuff the last few weeks and they gave us the full amount back in refunds.
Be careful with the All detergent though if you have kids with allergies or asthma. That and Dreft have a chemical in them that can make babies skin peel off like chemical burns. I learned that the hard way with my youngest. I can't remember what the specific chemical was but all we can use is Tide Free or Planet with the later being a lot cheaper in bulk. It was really bad.

No. I have a BJ Membership but don't buy my laundry stuff there -- I find the sales and coupons on the smaller sizes are actually more affordable ounce for ounce.
