Ok, I have a HP Photosmart 7660, and I don't believe it will do borderless printing (correct me if I'm wrong and that will solve my issue) if not I need some advice. I like the look of a "even" space all the way around my print. So what size should I do in PSE 5 to get this when I go to print them out. Should I start with a 8.5 x 11 project or not, if not what size? I don't have a problem when I do 8 x 8 because I cut them out, but see where my issue is?
thanks for any advice!!

Before I got the Epson R200, which prints borderless, I did my pages in 8x10. I then let the white border as it was, if it didn't detract from the page, or I cut it out and mounted in on cardstock to match the page. Is that what you're asking? HTH!

Another thing you could do is to create an 8.5 x 11 layout, then when you print it select the option 'print to fit page' (or the equivalent in your program). The print will then have equal borders all around. That would also be good if you get a borderless printer in the future and want to reprint a borderless page.

First you need to figure out what your printer margins are (it can vary from printer to printer). Then you design your canvas 8.5x11 and your actual background will be the size that falls within your printer's margins.
I believe you can adjust the printer margins to a certain point, but that would be something that you'd have to check the manuals on how to do. I've never tried doing it myself.
I have an HP PS7550 and I do not believe it prints borderless at a full page. I usually scrap 8x8 anyway.

I had to do this by trial and error. Printers just never seem to center things right. I did my layouts in 8 1/2 x 11 and found that my printer cut more off the bottom and the left, so I just made sure not to put things on the page too close to those sides unless it was ok to get cut out. I found that my printer left a pretty even white border around the page, just didn't center the layout well. I would try it at a low setting/b/w print to not waste too much ink, print it, adjust it, print it, etc. Then I would make note of what margines I needed to leave on the page.
