I know all you who hang out here are guru's on photography, and I would like to sharpen my skills.

I have a non DSLR or SLR camera for that matter! I do have a very SWEET point and shoot, which is the Sony Cybershot that has 12x optical zoom and 7.2 megapixels. Also has a BIG LCD panel. I do feel like it is one of best point and shoots out there (for the moment) I like it for now, but would like to learn more about general photography skills to use for digi cameras and how to understand settings better to better utilize what I have . . .

Can you point me in the right direction? Hoping to get a DSLR in a few years - right now the thought of hauling a big camera bag around with 3 kids (one is a baby) is a little much for me to handle! But I know, I SO want to own a DSLR in a few more years when my baby is a bit older!
Maybe by then, my kids will be easier to get to cooperate for photo shoots! Ha! In my dreams - I'm sure!

Thanks!

You should check out the MorgueFiles site: http://www.morguefile.com/archive/classroom.php. There's articles as well as free lessons that give overviews of how a camera works as well as composition tips. It would be a good place to start.

How about Scott Kelby's The Digital Photography Book? While it does talk mostly about the DSLR world, I was able to learn a lot about the manual settings of my point & shoot camera and I believe I improved my photo taking ability. :) It's funny and an easy read, too!

Scott Kelby's books are GREAT! www.ilovephotography.com (http://www.ilovephotography.com) is also a very good place to learn everything and anything about photography in general too.
