I got my Oly E500 today YAY!!...Anyway it came with two lenses, and both lenses have the lens hoods with them..So i was just curious if anyone uses them, and why or why not to use them.

I've never needed to use one, but I think if you are trying to block extraneous side-lighting from the lens, then it would be useful.

I always use a lens hood outside.

Yup, I have one for each of my lenses- mostly use them outside. :)

Yep use them all the time outside, helps with sun glare :)

I have them and in theory, they're good but in practice, I often forget to pack them in my kit, mainly if it's a spur of the moment photo shoot. And that's when I find myself taking backlit beach shots while balancing on a rock, trying to change settings and shoot on the 5D with one hand while shading the lens with the other hand so it doesn't flare. :lol
So if you have it, try to use it. ;)

Use mine for EVERYTHING never comes off my camera- also kind of a protectant for my lens because I hate using lens filters.

1. it blocks the light coming into the lens that you dont want... causes flare, so use it.
2. ever drop a camera and the lens hood protects the lens to some degree, as does the uv filter ya screw into the front of the lens... so use it.
I use them on all lenses most of the time.
