A blog poll!!

I have decided that it may be time for me to get a new blog... so I have been looking around at all the free and not so free blog providers out there.

I would love some feedback from you all about your blog hosts and good/bad experiences/suggestions...

Honestly what I'd suggest is to buy a domain name, find a reliable but cheap host, and install WordPress...that way you have full flexibility over your blog...plus you can do other stuff on your domain if you want, too! :) Blogs take up very little space/bandwidth, it's cheaper to host your own blog than it is to use Typepad, and it's more reliable than that and Blogger/Blogspot.

I have a really realiable host...to host JUST a blog, it would only cost you $4-6/month there, depending on how many hits you'd get. You can check my host out at www.nohasslehosting.net (http://www.nohasslehosting.net)

I used Typepad and was very happy with the system, but ultimately decided they were too expensive (I think it was US$9/month for the mid-level plan) since I had webspace for less than that anyway so I set up my blog on there using DH's content management system. Does most of what I want but for what is now zero cost thanks to DH setting up a deal with our webhost.

ETA - Just saw above reply, I'd recommend WordPress as well but Ben would go mad if I didn't use his system. ;)

I use blogger (blogspot) but its so temperamental. I figured it must be female. One day its happy to upload photos, the next day it flat out refuses to upload anything!!! LOL I guess it depends on what you will use it for... i just use it to tell random, stupid stories about my life and occasionally upload layouts :D SO in short, I dont use it much so it suits my needs :)
If I had my own website / domain i'd rather use that instead.. but I dont :D

I actually use livejournal, I've been there for over 3 years now and love it (I have the paid membership). However I know am in the minority for scrappin' blogs :)

I use Blogger because it's free and I think it works pretty well. I haven't had nearly has many issues with it as some other people seem to have had though. But yeah for the price, it's great.

I've used Blogger off and on, but it's always been buggy. Even though I CAN tweak the HTML, sometimes I just don't WANT too. KWIM? Their templates were "eh," and adding photos was always a crap shoot.

I used Typepad, too for a short while. Even though the user interface was pretty easy, the price per year is shocking. :eek I couldn't justify spending that much...especially when I could buy so many wonderful kits with all that moolah!

A few months ago I switched to the free blogs on Wordpress.com . The interface is easy, blog stats are built in, instant publishing of your photos, lots of customizable templates to choose from. The only drawback is they are very picky about "add ons," especially ones that use java. I reeeeeally want to put a Slide.com slideshow on my blog, but it's not allowed so far. But so far, that's my only complaint. Other than that, it's been the best blog service I've used so far.

The new beta blogger has always worked fine for me. The old blogger is very unstable and we have experienced problems with it, but they are due to move them all over to beta soon.
