Okay, we all have a kit or two or three that we really love, but it just doesn't sell, and we have no idea why - so, here's your chance - post away and link us up - who knows, someone out there is going to love it like we do!

Here's are two of mine, both availalbe at Digitals (link to store in my siggy)

Yesterday's Treasures (http://www.digitalscrapbookpages.com/digitals/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=93&products_id=3046)

and

Altered Art Box (http://www.digitalscrapbookpages.com/digitals/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=93&products_id=3016) - okay, it's not my worst, but it should be doing better than it is - LOL

Hee hee, fun thread!

This one hasn't sold well, and I don't know why, because I just LOVE the colors for my son's LO's.

I know exactly what you mean. This is my last kit which has been really slow. My creative team loved it and I think its one of my best, but it just hasn't done well. I don't get it. Anyway...here is Fearless (http://store.scrapbook-elements.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=77&products_id=7574). (PS its on Sale!)

My Wonderland Kits (http://www.scraptures.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10) didn't sell as well as I thought and are on clearance now through the end of the month. They were designed using colors perfect for toddlers and babies. I should add that they are not necessarily one of my favorites now but were at the time I created them. :)

It's hard to say which is the worst selling because of new product continually being added. Of course, the newest is usually less compared to products that have been selling for a while. With that said, my two lowest sellers at the moment are:

Pretty In Pink

Kooky Krismus

Christine, I love that kit of yours!

I was pretty disappointed with the sales on my Sweater Weather kit, in fact, it's probably what caused me to decide to retire:

Ugh....it's always sad when a kit that you've put a lot of time into just isn't selling :( I was so sad to see that my Grey Goove kit hasn't sold at all! LOL I was thinking that with the swirlies and butterflies SOMEONE might buy it, but alas...nada...oh well :P

As a costumer, I hope my opinion help a little bit. There are some factors that affect the sale of a scrapping kit...

1. TIMING. If the kit is lauched at the same time of other kits at your courrent store, probbably something else catch the eye of the costumer.

2. PREVIEWS. A kit may be truly gorgeous, but if the preview doesn't show it (even small as a thumbnail) probabbly something else will got our atention.

3. SAME THING EVERYWHERE (and probably free) Special holidays and themes have the handicap that lots of designers are doing the same, and even some of them are freebies. Examples: mother's day, baby girl, halloween, boys, valentines..

4. This is personal... I DON'T BUY PINK STUFF!!!

5. GRUNGE and FREESTYLE. I know this is very hard for a designer. But MOST od the scrappers don't know how to work with these. Very cute to see... TOO HARD TO SCRAP

I found 2 kits that really catch my eye... but both are in stores that only accept Pay Pal or Credit Cards thru Pay Pal... and my Country is not at Pay Pal list so I can't buy anything there... sad...

That really is too bad that you're unable to buy with paypal oriana... I'm not completely sure about why many digiscrap stores don't take Credit cards, I *think* it may have to do with processing and fees or something, but I'm not certain.

and I agree, freestyle and grunge can be very hard to scrap with if it isn't your style. Those types of kits have always caught my eye and I LOVE Them, but when I sit down to scrap with them, I always have a very hard time creating.

Yes, alot of scrap stuff is pink... why is that? *lol* I know I love pink, and I do have a hard time thinking of color schemes that don't involve pink. I actually had my CT send me color swatches that they loved and though some of them were very hard for me to work with (no pink, go figure) I ended up loving what I created with them!

And the point #3 that you make is also very observant, you really make great points! :) yes, TONS of stuff comes out for holidays, esp. Christmas! and yes, many designers even give the stuff away, so yeah, it all brings sales down in the end. But it's just so fun to create wintery/christmasey stuff! :)

previews are a HUGE thing in this industry. We have so much to show in such a small amount of space. And when I am browsing a store, something has to catch my eye from the tiny thumbnail preview or I'm not gonna spend time clicking to check it out.

Jen, your grey groove kit is very pretty, but it is really hard for me to get a good grasp on the details. The preview seems very busy to me, like you mentioned swirls and butterflies, but so much of that gets lost in the preview, and if all I had to see of it was a 100x100 thumbnail image, I probably wouldn't click on it. I hope you don't take that offensively, cause I really only mean it to maybe have you take another look at it. Perhaps if you "packaged" it differently it may sell better? Would you consider the papers and elements seperately? I know that when I have changed some of my previews, stuff that never sold suddenly started selling, not all of it, but some has. and I really do think that kit looks very cool! :)

anyway, I'll have to go look for my worst selling kit that I happen to love. I gotta go set my sale up at the digi shoppe now! :)

hey amanda, first of all, you NEED to link to your shop in your signature! Does that blinkie represent where you sell? I personally have never heard of scrapcloud, so it is definitely needing to be linked! :)

also, I love that cardboard alpha set! is it three seperate alphas in different colors or is it just the one alpha with the letters all in different colors? I seriously wanna buy it, so please link me! :)

other than that, I don't have a reason it wouldn't be selling well, cause it's a cute kit. like mentioned before, there are a wealth of wintery kits out right now and it may just be flying under the radar. Also, speaking from experience, marketing is HUGE in this business. I mean, if you really wanna make the time even remotely worth your while, you just have to be willing to advertise, blog, advertise, post on forums, just do whatever you can think of to get noticed :) best of luck to you and don't forget to link to your store!

http://www.veryscrappy.com/previews/misspriss.jpg

It can be found here (http://www.digitalfreebies.com/mmstore/product.php?id=1780)

I think this is a really pretty kit, however, to me the title "Miss Priss" has very negative connotations. I always thought of a "Miss Priss" as a stuck-up, snotty, girl who thinks she is prettier and better than anyone else and refuses to do anything that might get her dirty. So, maybe the name?? Now, I am going to guess that is not the same impression you had of that title or else you wouldn't have named your kit that! I only mention it in case it could help you from a marketing standpoint. Maybe if you try a different name and make a new preview, it could get the sales it deserves!?:think

Good luck!

I am totally IN LOVE with that alpha! But overall I wouldn't tend to buy this as a) it's summer down here in Australia and b) We don't get snow where I am - in fact I wore sandals all through winter!

Thanks so much for the feedback, Ashley! :) I was thinking the SAME thing, and this is actually a second preview I had made, since the first one was even more busy! I usually DO separate out my papers and elements into two different packs, and I think you are right...it might sell better if I break down and do that with this kit too...hearing someone else recommend it makes me think it's the best thing to do...heehee ;)

Hey Kari, those are beautiful kits! I'm gonna first of all suggest as I suggested before to Amanda that you link to your store in your signature. I see your adorable blinkie, but it's not linked!

also, have you considered shrinking the papers down to leave like a two or three inch space at the bottom of your preview for the elements. not that they shouldn't overlap the papers at all, but the preview just seems cluttered or makes the papers harder to really see, i'm not sure, but maybe changing it up a bit would help, cause they reall are beautiful kits! are you having a sale by any chance?

also, not that this would hurt your sales, but it *may* hurt your future name recognition as time goes on, your logo reminds me a lot of a designer named karen hunt. http://scrapbookbytes.com/store/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=32

I just immeditately thought of her when I saw your logo and even initally thought these previews were from her. It's a really cute logo though! but even after I saw that it was not karen hunt, it seriously took me about 5 different glances to realize taht your name was kari hentzelt and not karen hentzelt

I'm not trying to act like some expert here either! Cause believe me, I'm not! I just know what a difference a preview can make, I really do have kits that I loved, posted, they sold TERRIBLY, then later I redid my preview, reposted and they sold WONDERFULLY! So even though it's a hassle, I know once you find that perfect preview set up, it's so worth it!

As for the previews.. I was just going with what I liked from my favourite designers.... I may choose to go back and redo them in a bit.. but we will see! *shrug*. I will link to my siggy here.. some places don't allow that.. and I was going with a generic siggy for everywhere.. I will personalize from now on!

Ok...I am NOT a designer, NOT a digiscrapartist, or ANTHING of the kind, but I am your customer, and since I'm the one buying your products, I'll tell you what will help sell it to me...

I love when there are a few sample layouts using your kit. At Scrapgirls they do this a lot, and I have found myself buying the kit, because I can get ideas on what I can do with it. It might be a pain to do, but if your CT's get theirs to you, you can have them on the page, or link to them as I've seen at other sites as well. If some of you do this already, please ignore what I have to say. I'm just one customer, but this really helps sell a kit to me!!

And thankyou so much for the enabling. I've seen some gorgeous kits here that I just have to have.
For me, I have two kits that are my absolute favourites. I love to scrap with them myself. I've designed my old avatar using one of them but they just don't sell that well. So I've taken them from one store, tweaked, added to and put them into DSD (which has a storewide 40% off for Black Friday).
So here is Capri (http://www.digiscrapdivas.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=13&products_id=180) (the blue one) and Amore Botanica (http://www.digiscrapdivas.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=13&products_id=179) (the green one).

Kathryn, I completely agree with Debra about the sample layouts, and especially if the layouts are different in style and/or picked different items from the kit. And your mermaid kit is adorable! I would definately want it if I had a little girl, but I only have a boy. I'm really suprised it hasn't sold better. I would wonder what month it was released in. Was it released in the summer (when people would be more likely to be scrapping water pics) or just recently? And it's very different in style from most of the items in your own store (vintage), but I'm really suprised it didn't sell at the other store I know you sell at if it's at both.

Ok...I am NOT a designer, NOT a digiscrapartist, or ANTHING of the kind, but I am your customer, and since I'm the one buying your products, I'll tell you what will help sell it to me...

Well we have split it up now, but I just adore the Wild Sorbet kit that I did with Carrie Stephens. Here's my part in the shop and you can follow the link to her parts in her shop. Maybe it's just too strong for many scrappers but I could just eat up all the bright colors. I love it!

Rebecca, I'll be picking up your Boys and Their Toys tonight, which I'd admired before but hadn't bought. I am always on the lookout for train kits, but I tend to buy antique looking kits or non-toddler colors that would work for either my husband or son, but my 2 year old was sitting next to me when I looked at it today and exclaimed, "Trains! Airplanes! Cars!" and when I closed the window begged me to show it to him again! Also, when I'd seen it before, when I opened the "click to see larger", the bottom of the image was cut off, so I hadn't noticed the little train on the silver frame or the ribbons. I like the preview you had on the thread here better than the one here: http://www.thedailyscrap.com/mall/index.php?main_page=product_info&manufacturers_id=64&products_id=2162

Ditto!! Love that kit...but since I only have boys, I didn't pick it up before. I do have cute summer pics of my niece though, in the pool and at the beach, so seeing some layouts using it in different ways, would inspire me!!

I also agree with an earlier post (from Ashley) about kits looking too cluttered in the thumbnail. I probably wouldn't click on it if it were too cluttered. So...color draws me in first (no pinks or purples for me...although if they are with other colors I will click on them), then looking for different elements...can I find them anywhere? Are they unique? If all the kits by the designer look the same (just from previews) I might only click on one or two, and then move on. Then, if you were to give me a sampling of different layouts...you'll sell me!!!

This (http://www.scrapgirls.com/store/product.php?id=6593) is my favorite collection by far, but I think it may be a little wild for some.

Here's mine... I love it, but I don't think its a great seller because of the theme. I mean, how many of us already have a ton of baby kits? I sell it as a kit and seperately and the elements seem to be doing slightly better. Oh well, I've used it and I love it! :)

I'd have to say the sales for these 2 kits are a bit disappointing.

Kathy,

I hate hearing that. This kit is stunning, I love it. I am thinking, well I know, there is too much out there. I do a lot of 'window shopping' and I have never see this :(

Amy

Christine, I love that kit of yours!

I was pretty disappointed with the sales on my Sweater Weather kit, in fact, it's probably what caused me to decide to retire:

I've used it on like four layouts and my CT loves it, but it just didn't do very well...

There are so many gorgeous kits here I can't believe some of these aren't selling. I'm new at this so thanks for all the advice. It's hard to get noticed I think for a beginner too. I have advertised in "all the right places" lol! But still have not sold many.

At the moment I have these two for 50% off until Saturday midnight with the coupon code: havefun

I really wish I hadn't came back to this thread now - LOL - almost everyone has had something nice said abot their worst sellers, except me - now I know why they are bad sellers :(

Good thing I have a sense of humour or I'd be really depressed about now :)
