:D My agreement with my dh is if I want the upgrade, I have to earn the money with my photography. (but I think I can talk him into it even if I don't earn all the money  )
PS... I saw your sig line. My dh is a firefighter, also.

I use a Nikon D70 - love it!
My 50mm 1.4 is on my camera 90% of the time. Otherwise its my Sigma 24-70mm 2.8.
My next purchase will be a REAL zoom

ohh 50mm 1.4 nice. I have the cheapy 50 1.8. I have the tamron 28-75 2.8 and love it but can tell that its a bit softer than the prime. I want an 85mm 1.8 and also the 28mm 2.8. lol if only they didn't have to cost so much.
I need a new one! I'm still using a Nikon Coolpix 3100. It does the job most of the time.

I'm always a little embarassed to admit what camera I have, but it's been good to me. I've got a point and shoot Kodak Easyshare 3.2 mpx. Someday I'll upgrade (when all those pennies from heaven coming raining down! :D )

I have the Rebel XT, two L zooms (17-40 and 70-200, both f/4) and the 60mm 2.8 macro lens.
I like shooting nature and architecture the most so these work well, but I'm thinking about picking up something faster for the indoor work - perhaps to replace the macro since I don't use it's true macro ability much now. Just have to wait until something matches the quality (in my mind) of the macro for portraits - there's rumours of a 50L, so I'm holding out for Photokina!

Canon Rebel. Love it! I actually bought it for my artwork (see www.mybluemoonstudio). I do manipulated photography and sometimes (not often enough) sell my artwork.
I want to get a zoom lens. Any recommendations?

At the moment I have a Canon Powershot A85. Oh so close to buying a Digital Rebel XT (even had my cart full a few days ago!) but our mail here is being stupid and only about half of the stuff seems to arrive so I'm waiting to find out what the deal is before I order it. I would hate to have it sent back!

I have a Panasonic FZ20. It is great but I have my eye on a Canon 30D. I love the infinity feature on the FZ20 (just hold down the shutter and it clicks away as long for as long as you want!). But I do miss the dynamic range of a film cam--hoping it will be better with the 30D! Also miss the optical viewfinder--can't wait to get that back!!!

I have a Rebel XT, and
Canon 50 1.8
Canon 17-85 IS
Tamron 28-200 (I never use it)
I'd love to get
Canon 85 1.8
Canon 28-135 IS
and maybe a 300mm lens, too.
I wish I could say I take great pictures with it, but my subjects (my kids) are rarely compliant, leaving me to question my photography skills and my reason for spending so much cash for pictures of hands (as in, raise hand and shout, "NO CAMERA, MOM!)

I just got a Sony H2 on 4th of July. So far I love it, but it's a bit (ok, WAY) more confusing than my Olympus Camedia that died before it.

Take it off auto and start playing! It's the only way to learn. Once you do that you will never be happy with the photos you take in auto again. Oh and if possible try to shoot in duel save mode with both raw and jpg if you have that feature. :D

Anyone have an opinion of the Canon S3? I am looking to possibly buy that (Rebel XT is a little out of my league) and didn't see any comments about the S3. Thanks!

I have the Canon Rebel XT DSLR EOS... or however all those letters are supposed to be arranged.
Lenses:
kit lense (never used it)
Tamor 18-200 mm
Tamor 70-300 mm
Canon 420 external flash
What comes after that if I want to upgrade but not give up my "auto" function and still be able to use my Tamor lenses?

I have an Olympus E-300 Evolt.
It's a dSLR, smaller price tag than the rebel, and I have really grown to love it!! Although I am still learning!

I know you can go right up to the 5D and still have auto, however I don't know if you'll still be able to use your lenses - if they're the ones designed specifically for the reduced-frame sensors, probably not. If so, your options would stop at the 30D. Which is a nice option, but not going to give you drastically improved images since it has an almost identical sensor to the XT. The main reasons to upgrade are that the 30D is faster (shutter speed, burst mode, probably AF too but I haven't noticed it being slow on the XT with good lenses) and the user interface is different. The latter is a personal preference so I will not say one or the other is better, but I do prefer my XT.
Depending when you want to upgrade, the replacement for the XT is expected to be announced next month, in time for the Photokina trade show in September. Even if it's not announced, I think there's at least two new dSLRs expected to be released so if it were me, I would hold off any decision right now!

I have Canon 20D with kit lens, 28-70mm f/2.8L, 17-40mm f/4L, 70-200mm f/4L and I still have the Canon S230, Canon Rebel 2000 & the oldest one is the T70 with all the lenses on it (both films) love them all from film to digital.... and I want to upgrade on EOS-1Ds Mark II but Dh want me to learn more first before upgrading... so right now, I'm still hoping and learning... I just hope I learn ;)
