View Full Version : ISO: Layouts with pieces of flair!

09-16-2009, 06:07 AM
For some reason, I have a hard time using flair on my layouts...I never seem to know where to put them. But I love those little flairs in kits and want to use them in my layouts! (I also sometimes include them in my own kits to sell, haha)
I have the same problem with buttons too...so if anyone has some good inspiration using buttons or flair, please share!

Christine - I've always wondered about that too! Why ARE they called flair buttons?

Ok I'll jump in with a possible explanation :) I really have no clue where the origin of the expression comes from, but I had always assumed that it at least rose in popularity because of the cult status of the movie Office Space (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Space). I don't know if they invented the expression or just made it mainstream . ..

(but i could be totally wrong and maybe it has nothing to do with that at ALL! lol)

for anyone that hasn't seen it, it's kind of a running gag throughout the movie. Jennifer Anniston plays a waitress and there's a rule that they have to have a certain number of "pieces of flair" on them. the boss sees it as a way to "express themselves" lol it's a really funny movie :)

Mishou...that's when I first heard of it...not sure if TGI Friday's made it up originally or not.

Not sure if this is really where it came from, but..... Back in the early 90's I worked at TGIFriday's resteraunte and the server's were required to wear buttons and stuff on the suspender's that were part of the uniforms and mgmt called that flair because it let each server's personality shine through, while still maintaining a uniform appearance. Sadly, they don't do that anymore and everyone looks uniform. Just my thought on where the name came from. :lol

ETA: Guess I should read the entire thread before I comment. :) :)
