I own a Digital Rebel and a Casio 6 MP camera which I love. It's so small and lightweight.
But, I'm looking to buy a small, lightweight digital for my dd and sil for Christmas. I want one with almost no shutter lag, the ability to take some continutous action shots, at least 6 MP, lots of features, and not over $300 - $320. I'm looking at the Casios and the Canon Elph 630 or 700. But there may be others out there that are better.
I'd love your suggestions.

I had a canon Elph. Most people like theirs, but I didn't. I actually hated mine, the quality was bad. It was small and lightwight and that was the whole reason I really wanted it. Then my son had it and was spinning and hit the wall and the lcd broke on it.
I really have liked the sony cameras that I have had in the past! The quality has always been great & they hold up very well. I am hard on equipment and drop things, like my cameras and they have held up.
I probably just had a bad experience with my canon elph considering the reviews I read and by other people's experience with them have been good. It's all about preference!
You could also check dpreview for reviews on the different cameras!

Well, I'm one of those that love the Canon Elph! :) Mine takes great pictures, except when I goof up with the settings. I've had it for almost 2 years though so it is not the model you are looking at and there is some shutter lag which I am now noticing when I'm trying to catch my grandson smiling. But it fits in the smallest purse or pocket!

I was just at the local camera shop looking for one for my mom and step-dad. There is a Canon 6 mp Cybershot that runs around $400 that has all the bells and whistles you can ever dream of. The memory sticks are separate and there is one that is about $45 for a 512 mb stick.
If you do look into the Sony Cybershot, keep in mind that Canon makes several different versions that are 6 mp and they range in price from $149 up to $400 plus.

My elph is **old** (only 4 mp-- gasp!) But I love it too. Great pics, so easy to use. And the best part is I can literally bring it everywhere. I have a Canon 35mm, that almost never gets used anymore.
There is another that I saw that was "dropproof" and water proof, but I can't remember who made it. Olympus maybe?
Good luck!
