I went and bought my new dSLR camera! I decided on the Nikon D80 with the 18-55 lens, and I added the 55-200 lens. I am SO OUT OF MY LEAGUE with this camera LOL! The first thing I MUST do is sign up for a SLR photo class. In the meantime, this is my fist LO with a pic from my NEW camera.... Not all that great, but I never get good shots of this fast-moving uncooperative toddler, but this shot was taken from across the yard!!!!

Great shot, especially from across the yard. That's why we got our camera. It will come to with practice. We often amaze ourselves with what we can do. Have fun learning!

Congrats! I am getting one for Christmas and I can't wait!!! I too will need lessons - thank goodness Ritz offers 18 free when you buy a camera from them.

The D80 is on my wish list, too.
Have you ever used the "Short Courses" books? I had one for one of my old cameras, and it's really well written, for the beginner. Tells you everything you need to know to take great pictures, simply and with pictures.
Here's the D80 guide: http://www.shortcourses.com/bookstore/nikon/book_nikond80.htm
And here's their general index, in case someone with a different camera would like to see if they've published a guide for their camera:
