Considering copying layers is such a common PS task, I feel like their must be an easier way than clicking on the layer in the layers palette, right-clicking, and scrolling to the dup. option. It would be so much easier if you could select/click the layer WITHIN the page itself to do the copying. Better yet, just select the layer within the pg. and simply do a ctl-c, like you can do in most Windows apps.

Am I missing something?? Is there an easier way?

If I am wanting to make additional layers of brads for example, I just hold the ALT key with the move tool, and it makes a a duplicate layer.

Another way is to drag the layer down to the new layer icon on the bottom of the palette, but that probably isn't any easier than the right click method.

lol - I've always just done the right-clicking thing.

If you just want to use your keyboard you can do.....
Alt ==> L ==> D

Do you do know that you can set your own shortcuts? Go to Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts.

Control J will duplicate a layer. :)

You can make shortcuts, too. I have a shortcut for trashing a layer.

You also use Ctrl+J to copy a selection on to a new layer. So make sure to deselect all (Ctrl+D) if you have something selected but want to copy the whole layer. :)
