View Full Version : Suddenly have to scroll when viewing a LO in Gallery

Has anyone else noticed that they suddenly are having to scroll when viewing a LO in the Gallery?

It seems actually to be the Photo Details section that is larger than the screen, thus causing me to scroll to the right to read all of the description. It's not just happening on one LO either, I've noticed it on the last couple I've viewed.

Just wondering if it's me or if others are seeing it too. I haven't made any changes to my resolution/display lately so I don't think it would be my PC...

Here's one LO where I noticed it. http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=56877

I've had this problem for a long time. The comments fit on the screen, but the layout description forces me to scroll from side to side. And I have my screen resolution at 1024 which I would expect to be big enough for a 600 x 600 layout.

I think there's been changes to the gallery. Other similar galleries went through this change recently. You see some of the user's info on the left-hand side (when registered and # of posts). If the gallery and forums were linked here you possible could see their avies too...but it's not linked here.

I'm guessing the gallery software was updated since I was getting error messages earlier today.
I don't have the scrolling problem, but I'm on a 17" laptop with my settings at 1280x800

Yeah that's ugly. I don't like that. :lol

I'll see what can be done about it.

Yeah, I'm getting it now too and was just coming to see if it was just me. :lol I definitely prefer the no-scrolling too.

Ok so there are only 3 ways to fix this...

1) We disable the slideshow previews at the top.

2) We move the slideshow previews to the left or right.

3) We dramatically decrease the size of the thumbnails.

I changed the gallery to option 2. Test it out and let me know what you think.

Wow! Didn't realize you could see other LOs along the side. I don't like Option #3 lol...I like the size of the thumbnails now.

But sometimes I noticed that the slideshow preview seems kinda long so you have to scroll down for the comment section. Like I was just testing out THIS LO (http://www.digishoptalk.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=58051&limit=recent)

ETA: and I just mentioned the scrolling thing for the comment b/c I often look back at the LO several times as I'm commenting. I have a HORRIBLE memory lol.

I just uploaded a layout to the gallery and it looks great. Someone just posted a comment on it so when I came to see it, there is a big gap (empty space) between the layout and the comment enough so that I have to scroll down to see it.

#3 isn't an option..that's one of the best things about the gallery at DST is that the thumbnails are so big. Makes for really easy viewing!

But # 2 makes it harder for small screen computers - you do have to scroll to see the layout. And there is such a big gap down the line to see the comments. I actually thought a layout I searched for (a whole'nother change) didn't have any comments and I couldn't believe that it wouldn't. Found them way way down.

Same here... BIG gap between the LO and the comments. It looks like the comments are being put under the previews. Any way to move the comments over to the right so they are under the LO instead of the previews?

Gotta tell you, I'm not loving the slideshow on the left. That also bumps any comments & such WAAAAY down on the list.

Also, search results have changed and I REALLY don't like how it works now - It pulls up your results into one column, but the most recent gallery items are at the bottom instead of the top - it's just confusing (to me)

Then again, I don't like change so it all might be awesome and I'm just a stick in the mud. LOL!

I have a post in at photopost to see if there is a way to eliminate the large gap between the layouts and the comments.

And one to inquire about the change on the search results.

I'm not in love with the slide on the side either, threw me off and I had to move over. I have a nice size flat screen but it was weird. LOL I'll get used to it I am sure.

I am not crazy about the space at the bottom, either. But I am so glad to not have to scroll to the side. I thought my son must have pushed a button.

People might not like this, but I'm actually for Option 1. I never use the slideshow ones, I browse from the main gallery and open LOs I like from that. The big thumbnails just seem to take up way too much space and dominate the page, where the LO should be the focus. Don't want them smaller in the gallery though, so I think removing them might be the best option. Unless you can make them smaller in the slideshow only, still have the large ones in the main gallery.

Anyway Shannon, do you have the option in PhotoPost to change the code yourself or are there only limited template options? If you can change it, someone could write the code up so it'll display better. I can take a look if you need me to, PM me if you like. :)

Personally, I'm loving the slideshow to the left. I don't mind the big space between the credits and comments at all. I just hit "end" on my keyboard to comment and "home" to see the LO at the top again.

I noticed changes to the gallery too. When you do a search the results come up all to the left with comments to the right instead of the usual three across format. Can this be changed back? It is much harder to look at layouts this way. (See the link in my signature.)

I vote for number 1. I don't use the slideshow, I'm on this page because I wanted to see this particular layout. And the slideshow down the side is even worse. We don't need slideshows on individual layout pages so my preference would be to disable them completely and focus on the individual layout that I wanted to see.

I would vote for #2. I'm really not in love with the side slideshow either. The one at the top I could take or leave since I've gotten used to it.

Hope you get some answers and everything can be peachy again soon!

I like the new presentation. :D But I vote for #2.
Sometimes as I look at a LO, I see something I like in the slideshow, so it's helpful for me. ;)
I've discovered so many layouts that I've previously missed like that.

I have used the side show - as layouts do catch my eye often on that....

so not a fan of the new side show - much rather it at top....

pity there was just no way to get rid of the box bit only.

Well I like the slide show.... but I HATE it on the side, sorry!

If its a choice between on the side or not at all... I would vote for not at all
