This book is by the same author as "The DaVinci Code" (Dan Brown?). Anyway, have any of you read this? I am truly convinced that this book is BETTER than "The DaVinci Code"!!! No kidding! I didn't think that was even possible.
I went to bed last night at midnight and picked it up, thinking I'd read for a few minutes to settle my brain, and I finally had to FORCE myself to put it down...at 2:30 a.m. :eek It is literally impossible to put down, and I'm going to be bummed when it's over. It's a huge book, anyway, but I read almost 200 pages last night.

I liked it better than DVCode as well. Loved it. I've read a few of his other books (well, I never finished Deception Point) but liked A&D best.

I totally agree!!! I have loved all of his books (even Deception Point ;)) but A&D was probably my fave!! :)

The first time I read it, I was up all night. And then I just had to read all of his other books. I think I finished them all in one week. They're great thrillers. My only complaint (and a very unimportant one in the scheme of things) is that even though he got private tours and everything, Dan Brown sure messed up his map of Rome! I had to read it again for a course while I was studying in Rome and my professor would not get over that...

No way. it was OK (and I loved DVC).
All that shoot em up, run around frantic stuff isn't for me.
And seriously it has to have the stupidest ending ever written, I had to read it twice to make sure he actually wrote that ending. I can give an author a bit of artistic licence - but seriously? Seriously?

I LOVED this book, and yes, I thought it was better than DaVinci Code, which I also loved. What was sort of fun was not long after I read it, Pope John Paul died. Well, that wasn't fun, but ... it was sort of interesting to actually watch them doing voting for the new pope (conclave??) and all that, and actually having a bit more of an understanding of it.

No spoilers, please. I haven't finished it ;)

Yes, I'm at the part where Langdon and Vittoria are at the second location, waiting for the 9 o'clock murder to supposedly take place, and the conclave has had their first "no result" ballot. I remember all of this from when PJP passed away, so that did make it kind of interesting.

I never, ever have expectations for the endings of books, just because of this. I can't let myself be disappointed in the whole book just because of how it ended. Did you read the Horse Whisperer? And see the movie? Two totally separate endings.

No spoilers, pleaseactually I was very careful not to do that. I just said it was stupid.
I can't let myself be disappointed in the whole book just because of how it endedI wasn't big on it all the way through, as I said too much frantic running around for my liking - whereas the DaVinci code book was much more about thinking and solving puzzles even though they changed locations, but A&D was a lot of avoiding/missing something by the skin of their teeth. But the ending really did me in, at least make it something that is vaguely possible.

I loved it as much as DVC. Both very good. I heard rumors they were making a movie from Angels and Demons. :)

I really hope so...and I hope they keep Tom Hanks as Langdon. He did a fantastic job in DVC.

You actually have me really curious now :lol Wish I was done with work so I could cuddle up in a chair with my book and a cup of carmel macchiato...Man, I think I feel myself getting sick.....cough-cough-cough-calling-in-sick-cough-cough-cough :lol

Oooh...now I'm going to have to pick this one up! I devoured DVC, in a few days (lots of bleary eyed mornings followed). I was sorely disappointed by the movie though. Fell asleep through part of it even. My beloved Tom Hanks didn't play Langdon as I'd imagined the character when reading the book.

I was totally hooked by it, but put off by the totally graphic descriptions of how the cardinals were killed. I sort of covered my eyes and skimmed until I could tell that part was over each time. But then after being sucked in through the entire thing, I was disappointed by the kooky ending! I much preferred the DaVinci Code (book, NOT movie--don't get me started on that).

I didn't like the idea of Hanks initially, (I though Liam Neilson would have been good) but I really did like him in the film. This was the first time I wish I had seen the movie first, I thought they did a great job with the film, but it was hard knowing exactly what happens next. That took away a lot of the suspense.

I liked the movie, but I do agree with that (wishing I had seen the movie before reading the book).
Oooo I havent gotten to Angels & Demons yet cuz the DVC got me onto all the other books good golly I have a drawer FULL of books I still need to get through, cant wait to get to A&D!!

YES! I *loved* that book. I finally got around to watching DVC on DVD the other day, and there was a little clip that talked about them making the Angels & Demons movie. I think it said production would start "soon"?
Anyway, I much preferred this one to DVC. That's not my usual type of book, but I really really loved it! I found it very interesting even if it was a little (lot?) far fetched.
And about the Horse Whisperer. YES! I'm getting them mixed up in my head right now, but I'm thinking that I read the book and then saw the movie. One of the endings I disliked very much, but I can't remember which was which.

I have read the DVC, I liked it way better than the movie of course. I haven't read A&D yet, but it may be my next book to start. Glad it's getting good reviews.

I saw the movie first then read the book. The book was disturbing, so I was glad they ended the movie differently.

I read DVC first and then, A & D... This book is hard to put down. Everything is happening so fast, your heart start racing and you just can't stop reading! LOL LOVED the book, except the killing part. I've also read Deception Point and Digital Fortress. They're both also good in their own way! Are there anymore books by him except these 4?

I love Dan Brown! I can't decide which is my favorite of his.
I agree that the ending of A&D was a little hokey but, hey, it's fiction ;)

LOL, Trina!!! I loved that book, and thought it was WAY better than DVC, too! Hubby is reading it now, and for not being a reader of fiction, he's eating it up.
Hope you're getting sicker. . . . mwhahaha! Enjoy it with your machiatto to soothe that sore throat. :lol

If you like Dan Brown books, you might like The Rule of Four. Similar kind of story, but less gruesome. I enjoyed it a lot! And if you get so sick :lol that you need to stay home for a couple extra days, it just might be the ticket.

Too funny! I did add this book to my list of recommended reads. I started this list after I joined DST because y'all seem to be good judge of good books!

I'm going to the beach for a few days next week. I will take that book with me to read there. Thanks for reminding me.
Right now I am reading Holly Blood Holly Grail. I finally got my hands on it. I had a hard time finding it. It's fascinating!!!

I love Dan Brown books too. But they all kind of run together in my head. I can only vaguely remember the ending for A&D, which is fine with me.

Yep I know what you mean. I loved DVC, but after reading A&D and another earlier one he seems to keep using the same plot concept over and over. I think he perfected it for DVC though.

DH and I liked Angels and Demons better than DaVinci too. It may have been that we had the lilloustrated edition so there were pictures of everything. I've only spent 36 hours in Rome - didn't have chance to visit all of the churches LOL

I liked Angels & Demons better, too. The mystery & twists were much better, imo. And I think it potentially will be a better movie. Much more suspenseful. But I still enjoyed DVC. It really got me thinking. And I enjoyed the visual aspect of the movie, it really tied everything together.
And I second the Rule of Four!! That was also a great book, if you like the mystery/suspense/historical/conspiracy sorta thing, lol!

I like all of his books. I really enjoyed Digital Fortress...I never would have imagined I would be interested in a story about cryptography but it was fascinating!
I still haven't seen the Da Vinci Code movie because I enjoyed the book so much, I just think it won't do it justice.

I've read every one of his books at least twice and this is my favorite. I've read it 5 times by now and this thread is pushing me toward the 6th. I think he did better with mixing the religious and scientific worlds to make the plot believable in A&D than in Davinci Code. When I go back and read them both I seriously wonder why people are so obsessed with the Code. It makes me feel like he got lazy with the characters and took the religious conspiricy theories too far. Just my opinion.

I loved this book!!! It is deffinitly my favorite Dan Brown title. I was gripped into the story, i loved how fast paced it was, and really enjoyed the "reveal" at the end.
According to my TDC dvd .. this book is supposed to go into movie production soon. I saw alot of the filming of the Da Vinci code here, and then when i saw the movie.. i was all .. ohhhh i know that spot!!!
Yes, I liked it better than Davinci code too.
