This was posted on one of the forums at photoshopelements user.

This tip is for speeding up Photoshop but it works for Elements also.Disable the Detect Watermark plug-in (Digimarc). Photoshop loads quicker and your pictures will open faster. This tip is straight from Adobe's official support knowledge database in their Support Knowledgebase Document 318243.

From the Adobe KB:

Using the Detect Watermark plug-in

Photoshop includes the Detect Watermark (Digiopen.8be), Embed Watermark (Digisign.8bf), and Read Watermark (Digiread.8bf) digital watermarking plug-ins, created by Digimarc Corporation. The optional Detect Watermark plug-in scans each image you open for a digital watermark, which increases the time it takes for Photoshop to open the file. When the plug-in detects a watermark, it puts a copyright symbol on the image window's title bar. You can find the source of the image by choosing Filter > Digimarc > Read Watermark.

To disable the Detect Watermark plug-in, locate the Digimarc folder in the Photoshop/Plug-Ins folder, and add a tilde (~) to the beginning of the folder name (for example, ~Digimarc).

Well who would have thought? I thought that the more I had in my elements catalog the longer it took. I'm going to do that later when I go do some layouts.

Thanks so much for passing this on. For anyone else who might have to search for the ~ key, it's left of the 1/! key.

It really helps it does go faster especially in my Elements program. Oh and the ~ key is left of the space bar on my laptop in case anyone is like me and spends 5 minutes looking for what was literally under my nose.

Went to my plug-in folder, but it doesn't let me type anything in the front of Digimarc. Do you delete the word and than retype it in with the ~ in front of it?

I use the tilde all the time for temporarily disabling my other filters and layer styles, but I never thought to look for this one I never use. Thanks for the tip!

Right click on the file name and choose 'rename" and put the tilde at the beginning of the file name.
