I was wondering that too, if it was fake?

Hi Cathy!

One more reason to not feel bad about being single!

~LMAO~

07-18-2006, 03:14 PM
yep, it looks fake, you can tell by the image... it looks photoshop'd, but darn funny.

07-18-2006, 03:27 PM
Yeah, totally fake - but funny :D

I'm glad not the only one who thought it was fake. I read every word. But when I got to the billboard image, it looked Photoshopped to me, as well. Then I went back and took a closer look at the blog and started to feel that it was a hoax.

I must say, though, it's been a fascinating read.

What does everyone else think?

Edited to add: Debra, your line about one more reason not to feel bad about being single is too funny!

07-18-2006, 03:48 PM
amen debra

though i've seen REAL stuff like this occur - oh horrible NASTY! would hate to be on the receiving end of the wrath of someone in their position!

07-18-2006, 03:50 PM
pretty funny. :D

07-18-2006, 04:12 PM
Too darn funny!! I would have thought it was PSP'd (LOL) Kathryn!!

But after looking up close at of both photo's in PSP, she is either really darn good with her program or someone else is! :)
But I thought it looked like it was actually a stretched sign on a building. The words bulge/swoop where you can see the ropes tying it to the building.
You can actually see the rope/bunge cords that run down from the sign to the building under the words (Our joint bank account) and then you can see them running around the side of the building where she has her name (emily).
My two cents and fun to read!

07-18-2006, 04:14 PM
Dang! I read the blog and couldn't see the picture!!!!!! I want to see!!

:D I actually did think PSPd, Tracy, but only you would get the inside joke. :P

I do think the sign looked pretty real. But what bothered me was the part about the lights. Emily mentioned that she had paid extra for lights and I couldn't see the lights anywhere. Also, the name of the billboard company appeared to be not quite right but I can't put my finger on it.

I was impressed, though, at how the words appeared to have the proper perspective.

Question is, could any of us have done that good a job faking the photo? I for one admit that I couldn't have done it. (Maybe there are some here that would even argue the photo is real.)

07-18-2006, 04:33 PM
I don't see any picture either...maybe it was taken down for some reason?

LOL I take she won't be scrapping any of those fond memories they've had together! What a hoot! I too wanted to see the picture!

07-18-2006, 04:42 PM
It's gone now.
To quote Gilda Radner, "Never Mind"
LOL I hit the first link. Guess that's what I get for laying around all day watching the pool boy work. (Humph, in my other life maybe)
Which is as imaginary as this film noir. Made me think of the Taster's Choice commercials that left ya hanging. And I believe you're on to something Ms. Balint!

07-18-2006, 05:09 PM
Hmmm, for some odd reason, I still can see the picture.

Unfortunately, this happens in the world. There's no fury like a woman scorned, huh?!!

07-18-2006, 05:09 PM
Maybe the sign was real but what is says was changed? Just a thought.

Does anyone remember how the makers of the movie Artificial Intelligence promoted the movie months ahead of time by creating an elaborate mystery to solve on the Web? I wrote a story about it for the newspaper, which is why I remember it. It was part of the "viral marketing" movement.

Anyway, it just occurred to me that's what this blog might be all about. A movie purportedly made by the private investigator showing "Laura" and the bastard husband is now up on the site. The angle of the shot of the two of them kissing at the restaurant is so odd that I just can't believe it was a real private investigators' camera.

I think maybe this is the beginning of a promo for a movie or new TV show or something. Could I be off base?

By the way, I can still see the photos.

07-18-2006, 05:45 PM
I definitely think it is fake too..pictures etc aside as I am no expert there, but everything in the blog prior to her finding out about her was like information almost planted there.
I mean it was so easy to see what was coming..the way she talked about her and Steven being so wonderful together, the way she talked about the Pilates class, the way she described Steven and Laura falling on each other when drunk at her house..it was way to easy to see. They may be good with photos but not so great with words in my opinion. I would be very surprised if this turned out to be true.

07-18-2006, 05:51 PM
Read it, was riveted, but I also think it is fake. Like others, the billboard tipped me off- very Photoshopped.

Kathryn Balint
07-18-2006, 05:54 PM
By the way, have any of you clicked on the links from Emily's blog? One of the blogs is positively pornographic. I think the blogs that her blog refers to appear to be fake, as well.

I'm convinced this is an elaborate word-of-mouth marketing scheme on the Net by a company that eventually will be trying to sell us something - whether it's a movie or book or whatever.

07-18-2006, 05:57 PM
Yup, exactly. Seems to be coincidental that she can go from having a great s-x life and being on vacation to ok, it's not really that great, to OMG he's cheating on me...fake, fake, fake. Though the billboard is funnier than heck.

Kathryn Balint
07-18-2006, 06:08 PM
Well, it looks like there really is a billboard. In fact, it appears there are are two of them. One in Los Angeles and one in New York. So Emily and her cheating hubby must be bicoastal. How else to explain it?

Kathryn Balint
07-18-2006, 06:30 PM
OK. So I've been researching this. There is speculation that it's an advertisemenet for Court TV, which is going to soon start a new reality series on divorce mediation.

Here is a blog debunking the billboard

Kathryn Balint
07-18-2006, 06:42 PM
Thanks for the link! I hadn't run across that yet!

07-18-2006, 07:27 PM
hmmmmmmmmmm- interesting. the billboard looks real to me LOL- albeit generic looking.

love your detective work Kathryn!

this will be interesting to follow

so what do you think? the billboards are both real and she quick started her blog to match them- can you change the dates on a blog?

quite the odd mystery

Kathryn Balint
07-18-2006, 08:01 PM
I think the billboards are real. I think that this is a carefully orchestrated campaign to promote something - what, I don't know.

She started the blog on June 30, before the billboards went up. I don't think you can fake the date on a blog.

I think the blog was timed perfectly to coincide with the appearance of the billboards. I think there's a real problem with the billboard appearing both in NY and LA.

Everything about the blog is too pat and perfect. One day, she has a husband she's crazy about. Next thing you know, he's cheating on her. The private investigator is available at the drop of a hat. He gets the goods almost immediately after being hired. She manages to get a billboard on a moment's notice. Furthermore, I'd think the billboard company might have concerns about putting up such a message unless the billboard company was assured that it was merely an advertising campaign.

Well, that's my take.

Edited to add: With the time I've spent analyzing Emily's blog, I could've probably finished a kit I have in the works.

Too funny!
I just saw a commercial for Geraldo at Large covering this billboard. They said something about a cheating husband "or is it?"
Definitely sounds like a prank! Interesting to read though!!

Thanks for the info, Julie. I am now completely, utterly obsessed with anything that even mentions this billboard. It has become a sickness that has even overtaken my addiction to digiscrapping temporarily. Off to look up Geraldo's Web site!

I can't access the initial link. It says "access forbidden". Wonder why?

Kathryn...I'm not sure about in Blogger...but in other self-hosted blogs you can definitely change the dates. But again...not sure about blogger...it seems geared towards newbie bloggers or something, maybe not as many options.

07-18-2006, 09:29 PM
This is a classic - I'm interested to see whether it's real or NOT :)

07-18-2006, 10:05 PM
LOL I read all the replies in this thread and THEN went and looked at the blog. How quickly did they jump from everything being fine to suddenly having a PI on the scene! Whatever they are advertising I give them 10 points for originality! The story could have been written better though :P

Yep. The blog got me to spend hours trying to figure it all out. So even if we all know it's a fake, they've got us all waiting and wondering to find out what it's an advertisement for.

Oh, man. Emily has a new message on her blog saying how she's passing out flyers. But she doesn't show us what the flyers look like! This is frustrating. I think I'm the only one here paying attention still to this darned That Girl Emily blog.

07-19-2006, 05:53 PM
LOL Kathryn- thanks for the heads-up! I can't believe it's only day 3!

I do find this line a little odd:
"Iíll figure out a way to post it tonight when I get home."
I mean- she's already posted photos AND a video! Unless she means that she'll try to find the time to do it. I would imagine that reading all of her emails would be a full time job too!

I'm curious to see what this turns into. If it does turn into a show- it definitely won't be on any of the big 3- it's too vulgar (especially at the beginning) for that LOL!

07-19-2006, 06:39 PM
It's NOT real!! It's an ad for a new cable show that's coming soon! OMG! It's brilliant!! It's called viral advertising because people spread it around on the internet faster than the advertisers could! The billboards are real, there just is no real Steven or Emily...they're the characters in the new cable show! Good Morning America did a piece on it this morning.

07-19-2006, 06:52 PM
Hey, Y'all! The flyer has been posted!
