How to upload an avatar
Your avatar should be no larger than 100x100 px. It needs to be uploaded to your own photo-hosting site (your personal website, photobucket, tinypic, wherever you usually host your photos).
At the top of the screen, you can click on the link for Profile (http://digishoptalk.com/boards/profile.php?mode=editprofile). Scroll down to the avatar control panel. Enter the url address for your avatar in the box provided. Click submit.
How to put a link in your signature
Go to your Profile (http://digishoptalk.com/boards/profile.php?mode=editprofile). Scroll down to the Profile Information section. In the signature box you would add this code (without any spaces):
[ url = insert link URL here ] Title of Link [ / url ]
How to put clickable blinkies in your signature
Go to your Profile (http://digishoptalk.com/boards/profile.php?mode=editprofile). Scroll down to the Profile Information Section. In the signature box you would add this code (without any spaces):
[ url = insert site URL here ] [ img ] insert blinkie url here [ / img ] [ / url ]
To test to make sure that your siggy is working
To make sure that all systems are go, you can type up any test post in any thread. But rather then hit submit, just hit PREVIEW. This will allow you to see what your siggy will look like but won't fill up the board with a bunch of "testing" posts. :D

It looks like you don't have the opening tag you just have the closing I think if you put that at the beginning of your link it should fix it.

Thanks for answering Merkee! I'm so glad to know that everyone is here helping each other out while I'm working on the site stuff. Feels good to know you're all looking out for each other!

Doh! I guess it helps to read the directions... I had copied and pasted directly from your tutorial, and did not remove the spaces... so then I was messing around with things and somehow erased the first url tag... phew, thanks for the help!

Ok, not sure if anyone will read this, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed LOL. I have been trying to do this putting that word link in my siggy box and it isn't working. I then noticed the 'HTML is OFF'....how do I get that to turn on? Or do I need it on? Everything else is in the ON mode....help? Please pardon my ignorance this late afternoon..heehee
P.S. I didn't leave the attempt to put that link in my signature because it shows up like this: My Blog (blahblahblah) ...it's not 'blahblahblah' my address, just shortening this up for ya to get an idea....
TY in advance

You don't need html. That's turned off so that hackers can't ruin our site. We use BBCode here. To insert your blog link you would do this without any spaces:
[ url = insertbloglinkhere] Blog Name [ / url ]
Try it and let me know when you've done it. I'll check it out for you.

Hi Shannon (or any lovely code-deciphering person),
I am struggling with my codes. Any suggestions?
Thanks a bunch,

Am I the only one who can't figure this out???
I've read the tutorial and thought I followed it...
Okay, I have an avatar that's a jpeg (Tracey's CT) that shows up on my posts. Then I have a blinkie hosted on photobucket (Penny's CT) that I've loaded on my signature, but doesn't show up when I post. What am I doing wrong? How do you load more than one?
TIA!
Shannon

Sorry, this tutorial is old. I need to redo it.
Before you edit your signature, first click on User CP and then Edit Options. Scroll down to Miscellaneous and for the Message Interface choose Enhanced. Save. You will only need to do this one and it will allow you to customize your posts and signature.
To change your avatar you would click User CP, Edit Avatar. Select "Use Custom Avatar" and insert the URL where you have your avatar hosted. Click Save Changes.
To put a blinkie in your signature you would click User CP, Edit Signature. In the message body section you would click the Insert Image icon (yellow square w/grey mountains). Insert the URL for your blinkie and hit ok. You can then highlight the blinkie and then click on the Insert Link icon (globe w/chain link on it). Insert the URL where you want the blinkie to link to and hit ok. Click "Save Signature".

I made my blinkies clickable today -- but Vicki Stegall had to teach me - because I didn't read close enough here. How silly of me!
But I LOVE my new action blinkies!! :)

Sorry if this is a dumb questions. :)
How do I get spaces between my blinkies? I've tried just putting a space between the code but it makes them go down to the next line.
TIA!

:think Try doing a double-space with your space bar.
That worked!!! :) Thanks Shannon! :)

:clap This post has helped me so much! Thank you! :wave
Why does my avatar look so compressed? :( I tried uploading from my computer, and then from a site, but it compresses it and looks really bad (especially around the eyes.)
It was only 8kb to begin with so it's not as if it needed to be smaller. Any help?

Here is how I usually do my avatar:
I take my full-size photo and crop it into a square (or as close to one as I can get).
Go to Image > Image Size
I take the smallest side (height or width, whichever) and make it 100 pixels. This usually leaves me with a photo that is 100 pixels on one side and slightly larger than 100 pixels on the other.
Ctrl A (select all)
Ctrl C (copy)
Ctrl N (new file)
I set that file size at 100x100 pixels.
Ctrl P (paste)
Then I just nudge my photo so that it's centered.
If you want to add the chalk frame like the one you have now, this would be the time to add that.
Layer > Flatten Image
File > Save As
I hope that helps!! :)
Thanks Shannon, but the thing is, it looks fine until I upload it here. :(
See: http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e81/Hiprowy/row-avatar.jpg
Ohhh one of the sides is 103px. That would do it!
ETA all fixed. Thanks. :)

I've uploaded my siggies and my avatar but they don't show up at all when I post replies and I can't see anyone else's siggies/avatars in the gallery. I have made sure that the boxes are clicked showing I want to see them (in edit options). Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
Edited to add: It seems to work fine in the forums though, is that the only place it's supposed to show up? :)
Thanks,
Audrey

Okay, still not working. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I can't get my profile photo or anything to show up. I upload my profile photo and I can see it there, but then it doesn't show when I make posts. I tried to add a siggie, but it doesn't work. Help!
you need to upload an avatar... that's the one that shows up on your every posts :D

I seem to have mislaid my brain.
Could someone tell my why I can no longer see "User CP"? I want to edit my siggy and options for the gallery.
Shannon
03-02-2007, 10:23 PM
You're not losing your brain. At the moment, the gallery and forum aren't integrated. :) But our webmaster, Lauren is working on integrating the two with the next site redesign.
So rest assured, you're still sane. ;)
If you want to change your siggy for the forum, click User CP on the top-left (in the brown bar).
