I installed a few from Atomic Cupcake and tried to use them and I'm just flummoxed. I read the PS site help. I'm not an idiot. :D

I just bought Designing with Digital. Will that give me step-by-step directions, or is there another tutorial that someone can suggest?

Thanks,
Chele :)

What exactly do you want to do with them that you are having a hard time doing?

HUGS! You'll figure it out!

It's hard for me to even remember what the issue was (I gave up a while ago, but now have time to try again). I remember installing them and then trying to "run" the "action" and nothing happening. :-(

I'd welcome any help!!

Well, I think you might be talking about actions and not brushes. So that's probably part of why you're having a time with them.

An action (which atomic cupcake is famous for hers) takes your image and "does stuff" to it. It's all pretty much automated to take the work out of complicated techniques.

Do you have her chipboard action? I have that too and I might be able to walk you through using it.

Yes, you're right. I got the inked edge action and couldn't get it to work. While I'm awaiting your wisdom, I'll see what I can do with brushes.

I'm here! Was getting (trying) the kids to sleep - summer has turned them wild! lol!

Ok, I'm guessing you know how to load your action into your action pallette?

A little folder appears that says Atomic cupcake etc...?

click the little blue arrow next to the folder to reveal the contents.

then single click on the first thing in the list.

click the play arrow at the bottom of your pallette...

let me know if anything worked that time...

That's exactly what I've been doing and nothing happens. :(

I don't know if it's possible to "load" them wrong, and I did follow directions.

*sigh*

hmmm, did you e-mail Brianna? I'm thinking I heard other people saying they had trouble with that particular action(?) I'm sorry I couldn't help with that.

Maybe I could with brushes though...are you making brushes? Or is it something else?

I tried paper tear, too. I guess I'll get in contact with Bri - thanks.

I think I was confused about brushes. I assumed that they had to be installed and would show up when I clicked in the brush tool. Now I see that they're basically regular layer elements, and I just have to size them and drag them. Yes?

You can uses brushes that way (they aren't brushes yet in that format) or you can use those layer files to make brushes.

*open one of those files so that you are just looking at one image.

*click>Select>All

*go to>Edit>Define Brush

*name it whatever you like

*go to your paint brush tool - click up at the top of your screen (like you would to change the size of a brush) under the little arrow on the right is a small square icon. click that and it will save your brush to your presets.

* now you can resize your brush or change it's color just like any other brush!

Ahhhhh... cool. I thought there must be something more to working with them.

I'll play with it while the board is down. ;)

THANKS SO MUCH!

I'm just flummoxed

Well, dang, I've gotta use that saying!

when using actions, I had a jiffy of a time the first time trying to figure it out..... I realized I had to have the layer surrounded by the marching ants (rectangular marquee tool does this). I view my actions in button mode (you can select that via the triangle on the top corner of the actions palette).

So after I have my layer selected, I just click on the button and it turns red. Then I click again and it does the entire action.

I promise it is worth figuring out! Actions RULE!

You will get there!! HUGS!

Here's something I got from BriAnna when I was having trouble with the inked edges.

"Try closing other programs and having only the item you are inking open.

Also, how much memory do you have and what are your settings under preferences>memory and image cache?

You generally only lose commands when you are real low on memory. "

you really do have to make sure you have the item you want to work on selected. trying using CTRL+Clicking in the layers palette on the thing you want to modify. If NOTHING is happening, it is probably because nothing is selected
