Ugh...indecisive Karen here lol.

Ok, so I really was ready to buy the 50mm f/1.8 lens b/c of the reasonable price and I would like something to shot w/the lighting in my house.

But I started wondering if I should just jump in and buy the f/1.4? I think it's around $300...I think.

So here are some silly questions lol:
--If you have both, do you ever use the 1.8 anymore?
--what are the major differences between the 2

Anything else I should know?

I think you will be fine with the 50mm 1.8. Lots of pro photogs use this lens. The 1.4 is better glass but IMO you probaby won't notice it greatly and there probably won't be that many times you need to stop down to the 1.4.

My advice? Buy the 1.8 and save up the extra cash you would have spent on the 1.4 and get the 85mm 1.8 lens too :D :D hehe

Thanks Kristin. I'm leaning towards that, esp after reading THIS REVIEW (http://www.epinions.com/content_197714808452). Maybe I will need to get that lens too...my birthday is coming up in September lol.

I agree, the 1.8 should suit your purposes pretty well. Save up the money for another great lens!

Karen,

I just got my 1.8 and I really like it -- I am having a bit of a time adjusting to the shallow depth of field, but the photos I am getting with it I LOVE. I photo instructor said at this point (just learning) I really wouldn't see the difference between 1.8 and the other and that once I mastered it, it would be time for a new treat anyways hehe

I have the 1.4 and love it. The crispness and clairity that it gives you is amazing. I too like Ginger though have trouble at times with DOF. Since I am just starting out and have my dad to help me out I am lucky. Although at the moment it's just a hobby for me I am so lucky that should I have any ?'s or need help he is there. He used to be pro and still has all the latest gear yada yada but just wish we could practic more often.

GL with whatever you decide. Can't wait to see your work

I also have the 50 mm 1.8, I am not an expert but I use this lens a lot and have been very pleased. I also own a Sigma APO 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG that is OK for the price. Good luck and let us know what you get!!

I went ahead w/the 50mm 1.8 lens. I figure that I'm already wowed by my dSLR w/the kit lens, $75 is an easy decision that way I can also get another lens in the near near :D near future :D

thanks!

I havent any experience with the 1.4 but I have the 1.8 and it is by far my favorite lens. It stays on my camera 99% of the time and I just love the DOF it gives me. I think you'll love it. Congrats on your purchase.:D
