Those Stray Little Hairs

Ok guys, how do you (when changing the background to say...black) get around the little strands of hair on a person's head?
I am trying to change the background to black on a baby's pic but I can't get in between the small hairs. Any suggestions?

What exactly do you mean?
I have used the burn tool to burn the pic to black, but the stray hairs are so hard to get in between. The hair is dark too.

I think that if you are changing the bg color all together it would take tons and tons of work to get between all those hairs - not even sure if it could be done to look right. I would say, use the magic wand and set your tolerance until you get it right and zoom waaayyyyy in and start selecting. Don't forget to feather a couple pixels when everything is selected. Or, you could just paint over the hairs I guess.
For darkening an already black background I usually burn.
