I may not post attachments

I noticed some "ordinary members" can but I can't - wondering if there was a specific reason why?

I don't think anyone can post attachments directly to the forums. You can post images that are hosted on another site though. :)

Exactly right. We don't allow anyone to upload attachments (that would raise the bandwidth cost) but you can upload them to places like photobucket, tinypic or image4u and then post the URL as an image.
