anyone had any experience w/ scanning of old negatives - either doing something locally or sending them away??

I bought an epson scanner/printer JUST so that I could scan in old slides and negatives. I work for a photo shop and we also do it, but it can be expensive, would much rather put some music on and do it myself at home lol... You can get some decent results, is just all depends on resolution and level of damage :)

Yep I bought the Epson scanner too. I haven't scanned any of my negatives yet but I've been really happy with the slides I've scanned. It's time consuming, but yes if you can sit there with your favorite tunes and your favorite beverage it's definitely worth it!

I've got an Epson 4180 scanner and love the negative scanning! It's actually quicker than scanning photos - with the negative thing I can scan 12 pictures, only 3-4 photos will fit on the scanning bed. My DH is happy to see that the photos he took of me post-partum looking like a sumo wrestler that I tore up have now been restored thanks to his finding the negatives!

I got an Epson too. I would highly recommend getting one a few models in.. so that you can do a few at a time. I looked at it pretty carefully because i bought it for work.. and the HP was my first choice. but lots of research proved the epson to be better and it is fantastic. It also seperates out the scans when you do a multiscan. and this might sound small.,, but it is a BIG help!\

Good luck!

Yep, I just sent 600+ slides to www.digitalpickle.com to be scanned and they turned out great! They are a local company, so they came and picked them up and then dropped them off when they are done, but I know that you can mail your slides to them too. They have reasonable prices and did a really good job, so I would recommend them. Here are a few examples of the scans:

I thought about scanning them myself...then thought of what a headache that would be and decided against it!

Anyone have a suggestion for a negative scanning template for REALLY old negatives? I have some from the 40s that I want to scan. The template I have is for regular negatives.
