I would like to blur out the top of a photo to make it look like it fades all white. How do I do that in PSE or PS?

Thanks!!

If there is a FEATHER option, try that.

(ETA: the below instructions were if you were doing it on a LO. If you just want a photo that way you would just need to make the canvas of the LO slightly bigger than the photo with a white background.)

In pscs I like to use the gradient tool if I want a gradual change on just one side of a photo
First I click on the "add layer mask" icon at the bottom of the layers palette (2nd from left)
Then click D to set your foreground/background colors to default
Then click G for the gradient tool (it might be hiding under the paint bucket)
In the top options bar click on the down arrow of the gradient picker (2nd from left)
Choose the first one (foreground to background)
Still in the top options bar- right next to the picker, there are 5 choices for the gradient. Choose the first one- linear gradient
Then drag from the very bottom of your photo to a little past where your background is white.
If you don't like it keep hitting undo and try again

HTH :)

I actually sell a set of templates that fade to tranparent so that you can use a paper or a solid color and get a nice blended effect on one side. When you use feather, it is usually all around, and I could not figure out how to do this in PS or PSE but I have another program that has a few tricks. :) Is this what you are looking to do?
