Default What Camera Do You Use/Recommend...

So tonight, I get the kids all fixed up in their scarecrow outfits I spent all day making. I am so proud and I snap pics like it is going out of style. I have oodles of photos of them. I even have the cutest shots of them walking down the street holding hands with my friend. So, the night ends with caramel apples, tons of candy, caramel/chocolate popcorn balls and pizza...a child's heaven...and of course, I am standing on the sidelines clicking away.

I go into my room after the kids are settled and insert the memory card.

I almost fall out of the chair because EVERY SINGLE photo I took came out extra grainy! Lately this camera I have, a toshiba that a friend gave to me, went from taking high quality crisp pictures to taking grainy crappy cheap photos. So, now,I am in the market for a new one. I will be starting a new job (yayyyyy!) soon and will finally have the money to get one. I want to stay UNDER $500 ( I know, I am really stretching it...) but I want really high quality photos.

I feel so disappointed because I was really looking forward to working more with the fab Halloween kits and goodies I snagged, but honestly the disposable camera I was using 2 years ago took better photos than the cam I used tonight did. And its only just over a year old!

So please ladies, I searched the forum, but couldn't find a thread for this.

What camera do you recommend...that takes high quality photos, in motion photos and is not break the bank priced?

Thanks to you all!

I just took a peek at your gallery and it is not only beautiful, but I love the brightness and crispness of your photos! What kind of Nikon do you have?

I also have a Nikon. Love it!

Are you looking for a DSLR or point & shoot?

Just a thought - if your camera has suddenly started taking bad photos, have you checked the quality setting? Not sure what it would be called on a toshiba but it will probably be image size or quality or something like that. Make sure it is set to best quality / largest size

Other than that, I recdently got my first DSLR,a Nikon d40, which I am super happy with. It was pretty cheap for a DSLR too.

I have checked the settings over and over...they are all set to best/full all 4 stars. No matter what I do, it still takes crappy photos! Although, on manual settings it takes better photos, but not nearly as good as it used to. It is stuck at 72 dpi and it is so frustrating!

I can't wait to get a cam that produces quality photos like you ladies!

You all know just how to point, click, snap and get the bestest of results!

I had a Canon Powershot. I was happy with it, but I also was not happy with the grainy shots. I didn't get very many pics that turned out that way, but enough to get PO about IMPORTANT events turning out with grainy shots. I got a Canon Digital Rebel and POOF! No more grain, LOL! If you are like me and are pretty picky and notice flaws that most people won't, you might want to save for a higher quality camera! It might be better than spending $500 on one that you still may not be happy with.

Here are a few threads I found in the Photography forum:

I'm not sure about pricing right now, but for a starter camera in the DSLR world. I'd recommend the Nikon D40 or a Canon equivalent.

You can reference this site as they do great side-by-side comparisons of all brands.

www.dpreview.com

Again not sure what its available in the under $500 range as I haven't been shopping for awhile.

I'm very happy with my Canon Powershot S3 IS. It's got 12x optical zoom, 6 Megapixels, responds fast, has continuous shooting mode and uses 4 AA batteries. Unless I'm using flash, the batteries will last for an unbelievably long time (I use rechargables). If you want higher megapixels, you can go for the newest model - the S5 IS. Both are styled like a DSLR, though they are not, and are considered "Pro-sumer" equipment - high-end consumer cameras. The main reasons I went with my camera over a DSLR is that I can still fit it into my purse (if I pack wisely and carry my BIG purse), I can use it to record video and sound (attached to a picture) and the cost of it (brand-new, first day of release) was low enough to allow the purchase of several add-ons and still come in under the cost of the DSLR I wanted.
