I am wanting to start a S4H website but I am totally clueless about sites. Where do you all set up your sites? Is there free places out there that you use? I am just not sure where to start...thanks!!!!

I wouldn't recommend a free site... They have to use pop up and banner ads to pay for the hosting of your free site... Which means people shopping your sites have to deal with those banners and pop ups. Frankly, as a customer, I don't shop sites that are obviously using free hosting...

Wordpress is excellent for starting a small site. It can do static (regular) html pages as well as a blog, the software is free, has tons of free themes avaliable too and it's easy to use if you've never made a website before. There are also people around (several on this forum) that can do you a custom wordpress theme

I use a Blogger blog that I set up as a static webpage. It doesn't do everything I would like it to, but my s4h work is such a small part of my business that I don't want to spend the extra $$ on a website. it does its job. if i were to ever want to step up that part of my business, i would definitely invest in a good website.
__________________I am actually going to be purchasing some hosting from Karma, she is a digi-site owner, just to host my design products. She has really good prices and you can register a domain name with GoDaddy. Karma also does the design aspect if you need help with it. I know that there are several other people in digiland who do this. I believe Kathy Moore does, too, but I work with Karma on other things. here is her site... http://www.ekreations.com/services/hosting.php |

I use freewebs.com You have to pay to have no ads on your stie but it is fairly reasonable. I customized my template fairly easily and you can add paypal shopping cart with a click of a button. Check it out. Note tha tif you set up a free account whatever your log-in name is will be your site name if you don't buy your own domain.

Lucie, thank for the wordpress idea. I use wordpress for my blog, and I like it- very easy to use and I like that you can have "pages"

I use UCWebhost for my hosting and domain. I've had nothing but bad experiences with GoDaddy in the past. Heidi helped me with my site setup using joomla and the blog part is wordpress. If you use the wordpress hosted free thing you can't do any kind of business site...you'll need to install wordpress on your own hosted site for a business. But the wordpress itself is still free.
__________________My site right now is concentrating on my classes and tutorials. If I step up my S4H activities, I'll get another domain set up. I can put multiple domains on my host so only the domain fee will be extra. I'd really rather help people scrap for themselves though so I'm putting my efforts into education for now. HTH! Kristi Just Plain Kristi...no blog, no forum, no business...I'm just a scrapper when I'm lucky enough to have time

I also use UCwebhost for my site, I got my domain name free with it and paid, I think, $80 for a year. Genievieve Sass set up my site using wordpress she worked with me on my design and installed everything into wordpress. Because I have my own server I can add other applications etc into wordpress.

I am pretty new to all this digital talk, I let my partner in crime teach me everything lol... we just opened up a store, or well ahemmm I should say she just started up a store and I tagged along for the ride lol..I'm learnin' pretty fast though...since I am so new to the digital world, she had this blog, I think she called it worldpress, OMG it wasn't very user friendly for me anyway...I did ok in it, but couldn't figure out how to sell nothing on it...so I went into a few stores around the net and picked the ones that I really liked the set up...she checked them out and they happened to be ZenCart...so that is what we have now lmao...I really like it...she wrote a tut two days ago how to put product in and I already have 4 items up for sale...easy to use...that's saying alot for me since I am still living in the stone ages of computer madness on dial up...
