Default need recommendations on... camcorders..

I need...

Something with good visual specs and be clear. Can zoom a little... Is easy peasy to operate (ok, duh I can figure it out, but seriously when I have three kids do I really want to take the time??) Can go from equipment to tv ASAP. And is HOPEFULLY near or well under $200...

I'm not sure what i'm looking for and how Digitals are compared to the DVDs... and if I get the cheaper Digital Recorder... how easy/cheap is it to get it over to DVDs (I probably won't have a DVD burner for quite a while...)

Ooh, thanks for posting this thread! I'll keep an eye on it, since I'm thinking of buying a camcorder for my DH this Christmas. Anybody have any suggestions for a first-time dad?

I love love love my little Samsung camcorder! I got it on sale at Circuit City. It uses SD cards so no tapes and the battery life is great. A 4 GB card lasts about as long as the battery (a couple of hours of solid recording!) and it's way easy to use. it has a pretty good low light mode too. For a low cost, lightweight little camcorder it is awesome! HTH!

Oh that is too cute. I'm on a red kick. I have all kinds of Kitchen Appliances/Cookware on my Christmas list for DH to get me!

Do you put the movies on DVD? If you don't, do you know how I would have to get that done??

Does this take stills? I see it on Walmart.com and they come in different colors. My sister's 16th b-day is next week and I know she's asking for one of these, as long as it take pictures too. I was going to send the links to my dad...

My Samsung doesn't take stills but if I get my niece to sit still for just a moment on camera it's not hard to pull a still out anyway...LOL! I haven't tried doing a DVD yet but I use my footage for all kinds of stuff like hybrid tutorials. I really should get some of my puppy footage together and put a new video up on youtube soon. I only have a zillion other projects going on right now...lol!

I like having SD cards because I can carry a spare and I also don't have to get my camcorder and computer to talk to each other or anything...just pop the card into my computer's card reader. I had bad experiences with other cameras with built-in memory...never did get anything off of one of them I bought for my DD and swore I'd never go without removable memory again...lol!
