Default NSBR- my son's car was broken into AGAIN last night

Last week I posted about my ds getting his window broken and his cd player stolen, well, it happened again.

I am in shock, I mean his drives a crappy old Honda Civic with oxidized red paint, it's just an old pile o'crap.

He couldn't find anyone to fix his window on the weekend so my dh duct taped a plastic paint tarp to the window. I went out to look at it and you couldn't even see through it. I told them both it was dangerous and he was NOT going to drive it like that.

I thought I might have some plastic from the fabric store from my paper piecing days but couldn't find any but I did find a crystal clear bag for 12x12 papers. I cut the sides of it so it opened to a 12x24, then we cut a hole in the paint tarp and framed in the sheet protector with duct tape. It was SO stupid looking. I mean, wouldn't anyone who saw that feel sorry for the person driving with it.

Well, they cut through it!!! I don't think he had even locked the door. These people have no conscience.

So, what did they get for their trouble?? The cover off his emergency brake.

Oh that REALLY stinks. When I saw the beginning of your post title I thought "Wait, did someone bump her old thread?" I can't believe it happened again. So sorry.

Sounds like there might be an element of harrassment here rather than just greed. He might want to change where he parks!!

Wow, the cover off his emergency break? How is that even worth the effort?

Sucks. Something similiar happened to me recently. I was driving an older maxima... which had a stock alarm on it (of course no one knew it had an alarm because you cant tell looking at it.) Well it started going off around 2 in the morning, we got out, and the window is smashed in, and of course my stero is gone.

It became even lamer when we looked around because the entire inside of my car was covered in BLOOD. Blood and glass everywhere... including in my kids carseats! and they guy ripped my dash apart trying to pull the hazard out to shut off the alarm. so neighbors come out because they hear the noise.. and we end up following a blood trail down the sidewalk and find my stero under someone elses car!!

well to top it off, about 20 mins later, someone comes BACK to get the stero they ditched. then played it off like they were looking for an someones apartment at 3am.

i so feel your pain. Id really say try to get his window fixed asap. (junkyards rock!) and remind him to leave nothing in sight people may want. people break into older cars because they dont usually have alarms, and most of the time they have aftermarket cd players that are easy to rip out. and what do they get for it if anything? 20 bucks for a crappy stero. or a few bucks for some other random part they can pull off in a hurry.

sigh. hope it gets better!

ICK! I guess we got off lucky. The weird part is, I feel like why even bother to lock your doors. I told him when he gets it fixed to just leave the windows down. We can't afford to keep replacing windows. Maybe I should use my JoAnn coupon and buy a roll of clear vinyl and fix it that way. I wonder if they will steal the whole car. Maybe he should just leave it here and not come home every weekend. UGGG! What to do???

Unless he has power windows, replacing the window is pretty easy. You just have to take off all the knobs and handles (they usually unscrew then pull right out) then unclip the door panel. Call junk yards to find a replacement window. It's pretty easy to slide the glass in once you have the door panel off because you can see where it is supposed to go. As long as you keep all the parts together that you removed, putting the door back together is easy as well.

Oh, I know, it's just impossible to know what to do. He already got the window replaced, $160. Ouch! If it happens again, I'll definately send him to a junk yard. (thanks)

I'm thinking about sending the dog to live in his car. (not really but I'm desperate)

He said in his Economics class he learned something interesting. Here in Oregon, we made it illegal to buy Sudafed over the counter, now the meth is harder to make, which means it's more expensive. More expensive meth means more property crimes. Addicts are still gonna buy it so they need to steal more to make more money.

So, any thoughts on this theory???
