Default Do You Pay for Memberships?

I've noticed a few different sites are now offering memberships where you get free kits for subscribing to these clubs. I'm wondering if it is worth subscribing. Do you? Why or why not?

Also, I'm trying to find a good site (I have a few in mind) - what is it that you look for in a site?

I am a club member here at DST and I signed up for the Pixel Club at Gotta Pixel. I'm not sure I would do it again. I signed up for DST's club right when I was first starting to go digital, and was excited at the prospect of getting all the kits. So far, I haven't been overly pleased with my DST subscription because the majority of the kits haven't been in the style I scrap and I struggle to use them - so I just don't bother trying anymore!

The Pixel Club is alright, not bad but not great. I'm glad I signed up when it was on sale for 50% off. I've gotten a few awesome kits & templates from it, but it seems to me that the majority of the stuff is mini-kit sized. That's a little disappointing for me because I mainly scrap within a kit, and mini/sampler/addon sized kits aren't great for that.

I think if I sign up for any other clubs in the future, it will be at a store that matches my style and I will be looking at (or asking about) the size of the kits.

Nope. I don't buy the 'usual' stuff and I never have. I don't have children. I scrap for adults, mostly men. I ride a motorcycle, I am a photographer and a computer geek. Yes, I've got girly stuff in my house, I wear dresses and heels. The chances of a monthly kit meeting my needs? Snowball in the Sahara.

I also signed up for Gotta Pixel when it was half price, and I think if I had paid full price I would be disappointed. Like Amber said, they are mainly mini kits and I rarely, if ever, scrap with a mini kit.

I have also been part of Brownie Scraps monthly club, which I think is a great deal - you get a huge kit with it, plus a mini if you sign up before the month ends, and the designers offer lots of coupons to the club members. I also like that I can pay month to month I dont need to pay a huge chunk at once.

I don't think I would sign up for the DST membership as it is really expensive. I know the designers who contribute kits are fantastic, but Im not sure they will be in my style or meet my colour needs so IM cautious to spend that much.

Nope. I only every subbed to three things. One turned into a total disaster (I will not go there). The other one I was just disappointed with the kits on offer. No fault on the part of the designer, just not my style or my colour scheme most of the time. I only downloaded 1 or 2 of the 12 kits on offer.

The only sub I was happy with was SBB when I first started scrapping way back in early 2005.

I haven't joined anything yet - primarily because the offerings are either not well described enough or I don't like the description.

I want to join this -- http://www.scrappersguide.com/premier/

But as yet I haven't.

I only subscribe to Scrapper's Guide. Mostly because of the tutorials and not the kits, although they are often a nice addition to my stash (not always my style though).

I've had gold memberships here and plan to purchase again when I can afford it. But it's hard because it's really hit or miss if the designer each month will be S4H friendly. But I'm starting over on my stash so even if I can only use half of the kits, that's a good help. I'm also planning to purchase Inspiration 52 for 2010...I had 2007-2008 but skipped 2009...but again, my stash was lost and I'm a wordart addict so this will help tremenously.

My main motivation for these two purchases is to have weekly and monthly downloads to play with all year long despite my very tight budget. It will help to keep me from feeling deprived when I can't shop and I'll be more likely to stick to the budget. Same trick as in dieting...feeling deprived is a sure ticket to cheating! so I snack healthy to avoid getting too hungry and let myself have small portions of goodies now and then...and these scrapping goodies will have to do as well.

Kristi

i haven't subscribed to such clubs, but do have the opportunity to view Gotta Pixel's- and there is a great variety- all designers contribute a few times a year, so there's bound to be some cute stuff in there from your favorite designer

I pay for DST Gold membership and will continue to do so. I'd love to move to Diamond, but $100 at once is hard to do. I also had a three-month membership to Digital Scrapbook Artisan Guild once. I love the kits, but a little too expensive for me right now or I'd renew.
