Smile Holiday-Magical Moments

I have to admit that dh and I weren’t thrilled about decorating this year. We weren’t looking forward to dragging all the Christmas stuff out of our attic and causing a big mess in our house. Our house is pretty big and it took us about 2 days to decorate it. We knew we needed to decorate because we have a big Gingerbread House Decorating Party tonight and we want the house to be festive. Anyhow, our kids are older (12 and 13) both in 7th grade. We questioned whether the girls really cared if the house was all decked out or if they would find it magical.
Well, this morning while getting the girls ready for school, my 13 year old (Samantha) hugged me and said “Marcie, our house is beautiful!” Her and I stood there for a minute and looked at all the decorations and I thanked her. (She calls me “Marcie” because she’s my stepdaughter-just incase you were wondering). In addition to this my 12 year old says we would “win the best inside decorated house!” I was so thrilled to hear them say this and they are so excited about tonight’s party! I guess Teenagers do find Christmas still magical.
How about you-What do your kids think about all your decorations? What magical moments have you or the kids had so far this Holiday Season?

Oh my gosh...all my kids (17 to 7) were thrilled that I actually put up some lights outside...first time ever! I just did the shrubs with those net lights, but they do look really great with this 36" ice cube-look light-up snowman taking the stage and our tree framed in the window and a lit up wreath on the door! I used multi-colored lights so it all looks so fun. Our whole street really gets into it, so for once, we don't look like the scrooges on the street. My youngest, especially, is delighted. I'll have to make sure to record anything special he says about them for future scrapping!

Oh that's such a sweet little story, Marcie! I want to see some pics of the gingerbread houses after your party!!

Everything in our house is magical for my daughter right now, lol. She's 20 months old and the tree, lights, decorations, just about anything Christmas related is amazing to her! She loved decorating the tree, and about 20 times a day she takes a bunch of ornaments off (like 10 or so) and lines them up on the floor, then puts them back up one by one to relive the first night we decorated the tree. It's too cute! It gets kind of annoying though, lmao. Kids!

Toni- I am with you...my dd's are 7 and 1 year and both are still so into the magic. My eldest "caused" the outside lights to be hung right after Thanksgiving along with all of the other decorations up. My youngest is at the "undecorating stage" with the tree, and I have now moved most of the ornaments up so that she can't reach them...they have been found all over the house though in drawers and vases and shoes. LOL

Awww...how sweet! My kids are both just fascinated with all of the decorations. Christian (3.5 yr old) loves the lights outside...he says that they're there so that "Santa can find our house". Little Ava (1.5 yr old) gets up every morning and says "hi" to the Christmas tree and to the moving Santa that we have next to it. Is there anything cuter than hearing "Hi, tree....Hi, Ho-Ho" first thing in the morning!?!? I think not! My kids have definitely brought some of the magic back for me!

Marcie, my son is going to turn 12 in a few days. On Thanksgiving Day, he asked if we were going to put the Christmas tree up that weekend. He still loves having the tree and all of the decorations up. Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that when the decorations go up, his birthday is nearing.

I love the decorations, too. It's a ton of work, but worth it.

Your story is so endearing and sweet, and it gave me even more appreciation for the holiday decor.

That is a great story, Marcie. My children are pretty enchanted with everything Christmas right now. We put up outside decorations the day after Thanksgiving (a nice 75 degree day!) and my 4 year old calls the display her "hallway of love walk" I have no idea where that came from, but it cracks us up. I'm such a pushover as a mom that I have put our tree up twice. The first time we had white lights with red and green ornaments. My daughter really wanted colored lights so I took the whole thing apart, bought tons of colored lights and big boxes of unbreakable ornaments (I have a 13 month old DS) and re did the whole stinkin' tree. The kids love it though. DS stands and stares at it.
