Default FONTs are overwhelming me!!

I download fonts like eating potato chips...the whole bag! I love them I can sometimes find a font and make a whole layout just to use that font...
I have 1000s of fonts downloaded
I know that it will make my CS program slow down in loading etc so I don't have them all installed
but I want to know how those who have tamed the font monster
1. organize your fonts
2. view your fonts
3. load your fonts in projects?

please school this overwhelmed font lover!

Well, I don't really have it under control, Anne (LOL); but I'm a font lover, too. I "try" to organize mine in folders: favorite, handwritten, child handwriting, Peas, Grunge, etc. I used to use The Font Thing but since I purchased ACDSee a few years ago, I use it to load my fonts (you open ACDSee first before you opening your program and your font(s) will be loaded).

Hummie has some great tutorials on Fonts - Lesson 7: 7A. Types of Fonts, Installing Fonts, and Font Programs and 7B. The Font Thing Tutorial (scroll down and click on the pencil - PDF).

Here's a few threads on font managers:

http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/s...-start-172235/
http://www.digishoptalk.com/boards/s...em-all-175202/

And the thread on font organization at Scrappersonline (Darcy has a great link there, too).

Let me know if you want linked up to some more free fonts!

I use THe Font Thing. It is great to sort your fonts as you can see them, and then move them from one category to the next. You can also establish some "Collections" so you can have the same font in different collections without having to really move them around. For example, you can have one font to fit into a "Caps only", "script", "grunge", and another font in "Bold", "Theme", "Handwritten".

And although i have seen some people say that TFT does not work with Vista and Windows 7, i have it on Windows7 and it works perfectly.

I used to use The Font Thing on Windows for years. Now I'm on Mac. we have Font Book and I really like it. I added a category "Chris placed here" So I know it isn't a program font and can be erased later if I want.
I still have thousands more randomly on my computer and EHD's though!

I've heard good things about the font thing, but I don't have it.
I use ACDSee. My fonts list coordinates with my hard drive folders.

I have a folder on the hard drive, called Fonts.
Inside it are categories with their own folder:
caligraphy, childrens, dingbat, fancy, fat, grunge, handwritten, holiday, Pea Fonts, Retro, Script, stamped, western

I used to be a huge font freak, but then I went to Fonts Anonymous and I'm better

I don't organize my fonts (I barely organize my kits, they go by designer and that's it, that's huge for me, LOL), however, I do set myself a target date - if I don't use the font within a year, out it goes. If I haven't used it in a year, the chances are, I'm not going to use it.

ETA: I have Font Book and you can organize your fonts into different categories, it's just that I never do.
