MyPicTales prints "postcard" style cards, but I've never tried to mail one without the envelope.

I don't think there is any reason why you have to have an envelope to mail anything, as long as it has the proper postage attached and proper mailing information.

I remember reading fun information for kids once - like you could put a plain old sneaker through the mail, and as long as it had the proper postage and destination was clearly marked, it should go through just fine.

Are you looking for a printer that has a pre-made template that you can just drop your photo into?

I have used the postcards from Vista Print which were good quality. They have a few different sizes to choose from as well as LOTS of styles or you can upload your own. You have the choice to print 2 sides and color or black and white.

I do think there is a minimum thickness, though if you want the postcard postage rate.

Yep. Here are the specs.

At least 3-1/2 inches high x 5 inches long x 0.007 inch thick
No more than 4-1/4 inches high x 6 inches long x 0.016 inches thick

We just use 4x6 photos as our Christmas postcards. We attach mailing label and stamps on the back of LOs printed as ordinary photos at SAMS. Been doing it for years and I believe that they all get thru the mail, don't have a way to know if they don't. But I have seen some out of state arrivals.
