Default Show me your layouts with masks

I just started working with masks and would love to see your layouts. I'm not sure about shadowing. Do you shadow your mask or leave it unshadowed to make it look more like a rub-on??

Good for you! You are ahead of me then. Masks are always something I want to remember to use but never do. I would love to see everyone's layouts with masks too!

I LOVE working with masks and use them quite often in my layouts. For shadows it depends on what kind of a mask you are using. If it's a clipping mask used for photo frames, paper shapes, yes you would add a shadow. If you are using it as a blending tool then no you would not use a shadow for those.

Here some of them, all linked so you can check out the credits....

This one was a mask included with a template, love how my photo just blends right into the background. In this case I would not add a shadow....

Same technique for layout below....no shadow used.

This layout I used the clipping masks that were included in the template and in this case I would use shadows, since it was used to give the paper a specific shape.

I use clipping masks all the time, but rarely use masks for blending & artistic effects... since I make all my own stuff, it seems a lot of work for something that I'd probably only use once. I usually try to get similar effects with brushes, erasers, filters, or blending. I think it's an awesome technique, though!

Recently I have made a couple. I don't shadow them, I use it as some blend for the background.

These were made with digital scrapbook templates No. 42 by Kristin's ScrapDesign:

I'm a big fan of masks too and used to use them a lot more than I do now. Still, they create a great effect and it's always fun to experiment with them. This topic makes me want to find an interesting one and play again.
