Default PSE 9 and eraser tool

In PSE 4 when I clicked the eraser tool I could choose, say, a round brush to do detail work when erasing a background. Now all I can seem to do, no matter what brush I select, is to get an eraser shaped tool. How is the world do I get a different shape? It's impossible to do detail work with a tool like that!!

Oh how I long for PSE 4. I never would have changed except that it wasn't compatible with Windows 7!

what version of PSE do you have now? There are multiple tools under the eraser, perhaps you have one of those selected?
Click and hold on the eraser tool, and you'll see them all listed, choose the top one.
If you already have the top one chosen, go to you brush preview window and click the little down arrow. When the brush picker opens up click on the two little arrows at the right. From the fly-out menu choose Reset Brushes. That should put the settings on your brushes back where they belong!
HTH!

I was hoping you would answer my question as you helped me with the three little hands thing and putting whatever under 150. I am using PSE9

I did what you said to do and the eraser remained??? All I want is to pick a small brush and have it stay as a dot or circle for erasing.

Thanks for the help and any forthcoming!

Default Problem fixed!

I found this answer on elementsvillage.com:

Check your Preferences for Display and Cursors - I'm suspicious that you have "Full Size Brush Tip" selected for your Painting Cursors.

If so, switch it over to "Normal Brush Tip" and see if things don't work more like you expect.

Mine was on "standard" and I changed it to "normal".

Thanks for trying to help me BSK. Maybe this will help someone else!

Yay! That was my next suggestion anyway. Glad you sorted it out, and you learned something about your Preferences settings too! Go you!
