Default Question/Looking for Advice on burning to CD/DVD

I started digi scrapping in March and have become addicted to collecting kits, elements etc.

My PC has a 200gb hard drive, but I want to start organizing and saving some stuff on cd or dvd so that I can keep the hard drive clean.
My questions are these:

1. What storage media do you use?
2. Do you have an organization system?
3. How do you do this so that you can readily find what you are looking for?
4. Do you have any suggestions for me, something that you have learned along the way that makes this process easier?

TIA for your help!

Kelly,

Mine has gotten out of control too - I need to reorganize. I just bought an external hard drive so I can store more.

I always back up every kit to a DVD. As I collect kits I get a copy of the preview and rename it with website, designer name, and kit name. These go into a folder called Preview - DVD X (X being whatever the next number of my backup DVDs is). When I have enough to fill a DVD, I burn the kits (organized by designer by kit name) and the Preview folder to a DVD. The plan is to print out the preview files using a contact sheet format at like 12 to a page. I then move the kits into my master kit structure by designer by kit and the preview folder into my Master preview folder that has all of preview folders by DVD.

Right now to find something, I scroll through my preview directories to find something I like. It is however getting cumbersome. With my new EHD, I plan to start archiving some kits - purely Christmas, other holidays, etc. to reduce the number of general kits. I also need to move some kits off the hard drive that just aren't my style but I downloaded when I first started digiscrapping.

Ultimately, I'd like to upgrade my iPhoto to version 6 which allows you to keyword and catergorize files without having to import them into a year/month/date structure. That way I can search for all of my chipboard A Alphas and pick the one I want because the previews can be difficult to view some times as they are tiny.

HTH,

Ruth
