Default What do you do to resize down for posting?

My layouts never come across very clean looking when I resize down to try and fit the 150k and sometimes less requirement to post to the galleries. What do you do to make them so clean and large at the same time? Please help. I am using PSP currently, may be switching over to PS CS2 soon - still haven't decided, but I have both. Thanks for any suggestions!

Granted, Jenn..we use different programs. But I stated sizing to 500x500@300dpi and stay at about 100k (digichik really messes that up for me or else I'd be at 125 or so).

If you can, visit Jessica Sprague's blog - she has a routine she goes through for every thing she's going to post online - you might give it a try.

Thanks D, I'll have to check it out. Cause 500x500 at 300 dpi does not give me 100k! No way. LOL

I resize it to 600x600 at 72dpi and slide the compression bar to whatever gives me 100k.. usually i dont need to move it all that far... quality comes out fine

For screenviewing you should resize to 72 dpi...for printing you need 300 but for the web you only need 72. 500-600 pixels is usually a good image size for the galleries.

I don't know about PSP, but I use Photoshop Elements and there is a Save for Web option under the file menu (Photoshop CS2 has the same option). It lets you choose how much compression you want, but with much better results and smaller file sizes. I usually save at 500 x 500 at the "high" option and the file size is around 85k.

Yep, PSP allows you to optimize a jpg too, which works sometimes, but sometimes it is still pretty grainy. (It's like a save for web option, which I have used in PS). I'll have to check out that other program, thanks! Oh and I did find Jessica's info, will have to see if that will work for me too. Maybe I should just convert to PS... LOL It's funny cause I have used PS for over 10 years BUT actually prefer PSP for scrapbooking.
