Hello,
I am looking at two camera's and I figured this would be the best place to come and get some great advice I am looking at two camera's - 10 mp with 6 optical zoom or 8 mp with a 12 optical zoom. What is a girl to do? Any words of wisdom? TIA Melbell |

Well, it's up to you really.
__________________ Which do you like more, the ability to zoom or enlarge? What are the model #s of the cameras? We could check the specs against each other to see which is better. What about price? The way they feel in your hand? There's lots to think about, but we are here to assist.

Well, I am just an amateur
but I am looking for a good point and shoot. Canon Powershot G7 or Powershot S5 IS. Same price and I like the feel of both. I love to get closeups but I would love great clear pictures....can't a girl have both - ha ha ha.I don't enlarge more than 8 x 10 usually and am wondering if the 6x zoom with be enough. Thanks for the help Mel |

Hmm. Well I have had a look, and they both look pretty good! 8mp is still plenty of pixels.
__________________ If you go to http://www.powershot.com, you can actually check the boxes of the 2 models and compare. They both seem pretty similar. But in the end it does depend on your shooting needs and habits. I would probably go for more zoom, but that is me. ETA: the G7 has a lithium battery, which I personally prefer. |

The battery thing did cross my mind. I think the 8mp will be great and I am leaning toward the stronger zoom. Thanks a ton! You've been a big help!!
Happy snapping!!! Melbell |

I'm not familiar with the S5 but my DH has the G7 and likes it. It's not very good in low light because it's a bit noisy but it does get some good shots in adequate lighting. It's excellent as a vacation camera - I sometimes take this with me instead of my dSLR when I'm doing quick landscape shots.
There's not a big difference between 8 and 10 - I think it's about an extra inch of print. I've had some of my old 5mp shots enlarged as big as 12x16 (maybe even 16x20, can't remember) and they looked fantastic so I wouldn't let the megapixel count guide you either way. |

I would say if you're getting any kind of camera with a zoom, the IS (image stabilizing) is really important
