Default Cropping photos for a layered template

I am attempting a layout with my first layered template.

When I place my photo in the template, I don't like the way it is cropped. The photo fills the space, but the image is pushed over to the right.

To correct this I cropped the photo differently and place it back in the template. Then the photo was too small and there was a gray area in the template.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a way to specify what portion of the image is placed in the template?

Susan

What program are you using?

In PSP, I would bring the photo in a bit larger and place the picture above the layer you want to add it to. 1. you can select the matte with the magic wand then move your photo around until the picture is placed how you want it. Then inverse the selection to delete the portion that is outside the matte. 2. Or you can re-size with the transform tool.

In PSCS2, I would also bring the picture in a bit larger place the picture above the layer you want to add it to and Press CTRL-ALT-G to create a clipping mask. Then you can move the picture around and resize it while it stays in the shape of the layer below it.

This is also what you do for PSE (at least in 3) but you only have to hit CTRL-G.

Hope one of these suggestions helped you!!!
