Default iPod

Okay, so I am getting old. I know so little about iPods. But I want to buy one for my teen. I'm looking online but I can't find anything that says whether the iPod can only download music from Apple store. Is this true? Can my son not download the music he already has on his computer? Would he be better off with a Microsoft Zune?

You can put the music you already have on an ipod. You can also transfer music from your cds onto it.

I've never had a problem putting any music onto my ipod. What you have probably heard is that you can't put music from iTunes onto other MP3 players without converting it first.

What this is referring to is the DRMed music that you might download from say Yahoo's music sight or Napster. That music you could not pot the iPod. However, any CD he might rip or any song he purchased that was DRM free (as some companies are now providing that), this he could put on the iPod with no problems.
