Question Question for Stores/Designers About Data Loss

Delurking here for just a moment to ask a quick question. I recently suffered the dreaded EHD failure. Please, save me the lectures about the need for adequate back up systems and such. Trust me, I have learned a painfully valuable lesson here. I consider myself lucky because I was able to recover most of my critical data, however, I still lost a lot of my favorite digiscrapping supplies. I've read a few posts were other people mentioned that they have requested to have their download links reset in order to replace their prior purchases.

My question is, are stores/designers generally open to this? And should I be approaching the store or the designer with this kind of request? Any direction on this would be greatly appreciated. Fortunately, I didn't lose anything irreplacable, but I'm still super bummed about losing a couple hundred dollars in digi supplies after having had to cough up the cost of the data recovery.

I always do it. I think you should. It's not like these people ask for their links to be reset every month. Something terrible happened to their computer and they lost everything. I would certainly hope people would do it for me.

Sorry you had that happen - totally stinks. And yes, I always reset links for the customer. Just need a full name so I can search the customer database.

It couldn't hurt to contact them and explain the situation. I think (though i don't have any experience) most will do it, and quickly. The worse that could happen would that you wouldn't get a response...but at least you tried.

I lost everything a couple of months ago, I contacted the stores I can remember purchasing from and every single one - and there were lots - reset my downloads! Only one gave me the lecture about backin up, so I downloaded my file and have never returned there! I can totally sympathise with you! I am now also totally over the top about backing up, as it was a hideous lesson to learn!

That's so awful! I'm sorry you lost all that girl!

I have a habit of keeping every receipt I get when I make a purchase. If this ever happens to me I hope it helps some LOL

This just happened to me and ironically, my EHD failed WHILE I was backing it up! I contacted several stores where I'd purchased some of my can't-go-without supplies and they were ALL very accommodating!

I lost a LOT of my files last month. I (frantically) emailed ALL the store owners I could think of, asking them to reset my download links after explaining the situation. MOST replied within a few hours AND reset my links, no prob. I know I even had links to more than a year ago that were reset! THAT'S customer service, I say......especially since I've NEVER asked for a total reset ever.

There were a couple of stores where the owners told me they could only reset the links of the past 2 months' worth of products. Oooookaaaaay. Needless to say, those stores won't be seeing my paypal again.

Overall though, it was a wonderful feeling of support that was shown me by the store owners. They FELT my pain and my sense of loss at my ehd crash. And I will eternally be grateful for them for going out of their way to sometimes manually (!) reset those precious links for me! Thank goodness for digital eh?

Good luck recovering and reconstructing your files!
