Resizing for posting online

I'm noticing that my online postings don't seem as crisp as the full page. I'm trying to make sure I stay under everyone's size requirements - but I may have picked the wrong way. I have 12x12 layouts at 300dpi that I resize to 8x8/72dpi. Is there a better way to resize (these are flattened, too).

If your gallery is at the peas (which it looks like!) - I wouldn't bother resizing. Their system auto-resizes for you. I upload all my stuff 12 x 12 at 300 dpi, and usually saved at high quality. It WILL upload a little faster if you change the dpi to 150 though - and still maintains a sharp look.

I have one at SBB, too, and I do notice a HUGE quality change by just reducing the pixel size (600x600) and leaving at 300dpi

In PSE, if you use the Save for Web option, make sure that you select maximum quality (or at least very good quality) in the pull down menu at the top of the resizing screen. You can adjust the pixels below and as you change them you can see your file size. You can just keep playing with it until you get the largest image possible that's still under the site's required file size.

LOL! I totally get what you mean! When I was trying for the ultimate scrapper thing at michelle pearson's site they wanted the files to be so small and low quality it would take me like 5 or 6 resizings to get it right, and man it looked bad! :P :

I always do the "Save for Web" option in PSE, because you can change the pixels and quality and size and everything, and then see the results of what it would look like on the screen. You can zoom in and see if your LO is too pixelated and can adjust different things to make it work. At the bottom of the screen you can see how many kb your file would be at the setting you're at. I use these smaller "web" files to send in my emails too.

What I do (I scrap in 8x8) is resize to 600x600 px, then flatten the image, run unsharp mask, then save for web.
I usually save to a preset of 100 so it'll easily fit in any gallery with sizing requirements.

It's kinda complicated the first couple of times, but now it's second nature.
