What settings do I set my camera on to get pictures of my lighted christmas tree? Without the flash no matter what I do I seem to be getting a yellow look (although now that I take a look at the tree that might be accurate). With the flash its nice and white like its supposed to be but the lights don't look lit. I wish my camera had a "take exactly what I see through the lens setting."

I'm assuming you are using a DSLR.
__________________Try ISO 400 or 800, F2.8, and the slowest shutter speed you can. I took a picture of our Christmas tree and it shows 1/25th and I'm not sure how I even held the camera still enough to get a picture! I also adjusted levels and probably curves in PS.

I used a tripod and no flash. Also Peggy's suggestion should work too.

That's what I was doing wrong! For some reason I had it in my head I needed a high ISO. I fiddled with every other setting but left the ISO high. I even went so far as to drag out the tripod. Also good to know that I might have to do some editing even if I get the best shot I can.

Try setting the white balance to tungsten. That will also help reduce the yellow cast a bit.

Hey what color walls do you have and carpet? We still have the old wooden panels in our living room and regardless of the million things I've tried we always get some cast from the walls. Even if I try to fiddle with them it'll change the cast on our white carpet. It's a pain.

Since this was bumped, I thought it appropriate to add the exact settings I used to get the glowing lights look on our tree. Set everything up, then shut off the lights in the room. Here are the settings:

Oooh yay, now I don't have to do a bunch of searches. I'd love to see a picture of your tree Kim!
