Question about Hybrid tins/wooden boxes

I'm completely a digital girl. I was so proud of myself for actually making calendars and its the first time I've printed anything out- looks just as good on paper!

Anyway, I've been wanting to try some of the hybrid stuff. Particularly altoid tins and wooden trinket boxes. I bought mod podge matte and sponge brushes, but when I first tried it, the papers bubbled and colors ran. Miss Mint from Peppermint Creative suggested using a dry adhesive like spray on the paper and then just using mod podge to seal it.

I'd love any suggestions (types of paper to print on for hybrid projects, adhesives, sealers, techniques or tutorials, etc.)

I don't use any mod podge when doing my hybrid projects. Mod Podge and I don't usually get along that famously You could definitely use some type of spray adhesive, that would work but I find that it gets really messy or maybe it's just user error on my part. I use Beacons 3 in 1 glue on just about everything I do, it holds really well, dries clear, grabs well. It sort of has the consistency of hot glue.

I use Heavyweight Matte paper for most of my projects unless I'm going for more texture then I'll use cardstock, but it makes the colors pop and they don't run.

I love doing hybrid projects but I I have never used mod podge – icky sticky googy stuff irks me

I use Pritt glue tape for most things – no mess and if I need to seal anything I use Micador Crystal Clear, it comes in an aerosol can so its really easy to use. i am not sure if available in the USA though. HTH

Here's my latest hybrid project I used the Altoid tin album by Shabby Princess but since we dont get altoids here I made it into a mini album .

I'm with Nisha (LOL) modge podge is way too messy for me! I use spray adhesives and good old fashion double sided tape.

When using metal even unpainted metal you need to sand it all down first. I use the ModgePodge as a glue first, let it dry and then use it on top. It's possible to get air bubbles which need smoothing out. While wet you can take a pin and make a small hole in the bubble and then smooth with an old credit card. Old credit cards come in very handy for smoothing and gluing.

You can also use a Hermafix glue dot dispenser or something like it right on the metal and glue down what you need to on top. Just make sure that whatever you have has a good stick to it. Then Modge Podge.

I tend to sand my Altoid tins and paint them and then add whatever I am going to use on top with my hermafix or glue dots or if you use a Crop-a-dial you can put your layer on top of the tin with eyelets. I love using my Crop-a-dial to add these to metal.

For most paper items I use an old fashioned glue stick. It stays wet long enough to move stuff around. I haven't had good luck with mod podge either.

I use modge podge (yep it's very messy) and if your colors run it could be the paper. I tend to use White cardstock to print on vs. photo paper. Also, you need to put it on thin and evenly and you won't get bubbles. You can always add a second coat (thin) but make sure to let it dry fully.

I "ran" into this same problem with a project I did last year. I think it's not the mod podge, but the photo paper. I was going to try it with cardstock but never got a chance.

The reason the inks ran is probably because you have an inkjet printer, right? You have to spray prints from a digital printer with Krylon Preserve-It first and then you can use a medium that is water-based like mod podge.

I did the same album Nisha did with Shabby Princess's Altoid tin kit and printed out the little pages at Walgreens' photo lab. I Mod-Podged it onto the tin and then put a layer or two of Mod-Podge on top.

No colors ran and it gave me a nice sheen and increased the durability of the album.
