Meet Yari of Jady Day Studio, the creator of this month’s DST Gold Member Kit, Winter Wonderland.
| What inspired you to create this month’s DST Gold Member kit?
[I was inspired by] the beautiful season of winter that we will begin this month and all of the wonderful memories people have in the winter time. What is your favorite part or element of the kit? I love the snowmen but I most of all [I love] the winter-fun toys that people typically use to play with in the winter. I think they are adorable. I also love the colors, the textures and techniques I used as well as [the] versatil[ity of] the kit. How long have you been designing? [I have been designing for] three and a half years with a little three-month break in between to have my fourth baby. I retired thinking I would not be able to design and raise four children at the same time. However, after my baby was born, I discovered that I needed a creative outlet again and that I really, really missed designing. I returned and I am so glad that I did! What program(s) do you use? Photoshop CS5 and occasionally Inkscape. What part of designing comes easiest to you (themes, colors, papers, elements?) Definitely themes! I am a theme girl all the way. It is definitely my niche. What part of designing is most challenging to you? I think papers. They take me the shortest time to make but they are the most challenging for me. What inspires you? [I am inspired by] things I do with my family. If you’re running low on design mojo, where do you go to kick-start your creativity? When this happens, I find it that it is best to take a little break away from the computer and then when I am relaxed enough, I get back online and search for inspiration on Pinterest! Link us to a layout that you have seen using your work that just left you awestruck. This layout is by my dear friend Kay Miller. She is such an incredible scrapper! She used her own template and I love the papers on this layout and the layering around the darling photo of her daughter. Too precious. What project are you working on now (or next)? Christmas kits! How much time do you allocate to designing in a typical week? [I design for] whatever time I can get in the middle of everything I have to do with my family, but typically about twenty hours or so. What is the latest you’ve ever stayed up to finish a design or scrap? I think 3:30 a.m.. I was not a very happy camper the next day. What book are you reading right now? My Gift To You by Lori Nawyn What is your favorite quote? Enjoy the little things for later you will realize they were the big things. What personality traits do you hope to pass on to your children? Definitely creativity! My kids are really good at art and it is very obvious to people at their school and to our relatives. Which of your accomplishments would your parents be most proud of? Definitely being a mother, but especially being a mother to my beautiful children. I am not the best mother, but I try very hard to be the best mother that I can be for them. |
