Forum4 Forum Tips and Tricks

What I like best about DST is the forums. If I have a question, I can get an answer (or ten) quickly, with links to more information and often screen shots! If I’m looking for a particular scrap supply, I can just post an ISO (In Search Of) thread and before I know it there will be a whole thread full of beautiful previews for me to browse.

But I have to admit I’ve not always been active in forums, partly because I didn’t know the tips and tricks that make it easy to stay engaged. So I’m going to share with you what I’ve learned along the way in hopes that it will encourage you to come spend some time with us!

  • Settings matter: first, go to your User CP, and in the left sidebar click on Edit Options. Scroll down to Messaging & Notifications and where it says Default Thread Subscription Mode choose one of the email options from the drop down menu. I chose Instant Email Notification but you may prefer one daily or weekly email. This way if other people reply to a thread you’ve commented on, you’ll get an email. This reminds me to come back to the site and reply. You can always unsubscribe to the thread later if you stop being interested in the conversation.

  • Keep Up to Date: Don’t you hate when you miss a really interesting thread and run across it weeks later? Don’t miss a thing by subscribing to a particular forum. It’s easy: Navigate to the forum you’d like to subscribe to, say Scrap Talk. In the upper right corner you’ll see Forum Tools. Click on the arrow and choose Subscribe to this Forum. You will get a menu that will let you choose how often you want to be emailed with new posts. I get a daily email, so I see which posts are new and which posts have new comments.Forum1 Forum Tips and Tricks
  • Quick Check: Don’t want to subscribe, just want to check on what’s been posted since you were here last? At the top of any forum page, click New Posts and you’ll get a list of every thread that’s had a new post since you visited last. Quick and easy way to see what’s new!

How do you use forums to keep in touch? Any tricks we should know?
