Have you ever met your digital-scrapbooking friends IRL (in real life)? A couple of weeks ago, I got to do just that. I spent an evening celebrating digital scrapbooking at Digi Night Out, a real-life gathering of digital scrapbookers at a local hotel. As conversations about stores, designing, and creative teams filled the room, 37 women from all over Utah enjoyed socializing and scrapping. We spent the evening meeting featured designer Meredith Cardall, getting some great journaling ideas, speed scrapping, and winning prizes from Meredith Cardall, Down This Road Designs, Stolen Moments, Persnickety Prints, and Everyday Storyteller. The free kit from Meredith and coupons from the event sponsors were the icing on the cake! It was the perfect evening (I even got a layout done!) and I’m looking forward to the the next Digi Night Out in September.
After the event, I connected with Lynnette, the event organizer behind Digi Night Out, and asked her to share her thoughts and ideas on putting together a digital-scrapbooking retreat for those who are considering sponsoring a similar event in their part of the world.
DST: What inspired you to put together this event?
Lynnette: I’ve been to a few different digi retreats over the years, and I always had such a great time and left feeling very inspired. I also just love digital scrappbooking, but none of my real-life friends share my passion. I wanted a way to connect with others who love this hobby, and to inspire them the way I’ve been inspired by so many in digi land.
DST: Was your first Digi Night Out a success?
Lynnette: It was! I set some goals as I was planning the event. I was able to meet my goals in terms of how many attended [37 people, including several designers], what I wanted to have happen at the event, and just being able to chat with and get to know other digital scrapbookers in my area. Plus I had fun, and I think everyone else did too! I actually sent out a post-event survey and I’ve gotten some really good feedback.
DST: Tell us a little about yourself.
Lynnette: I’ve been digital scrapbooking for seven years now! I absolutely love it and have become more addicted over the years. Recently, I was looking for a way to get more involved in the community, but I didn’t want to design, and I thought it would be fun to do something personal and local, thus Digi Night Out was born.
DST: You couldn’t have pulled off such a successful night alone. Anyone you want to thank?
Lynnette: Britanee Walker (also known as britaneejean around digiland), and Brittney Maxfield were awesome helpers at the event. Also Britanee Walker and Susan Hansen both created layouts with Meredith’s kit to help show off how awesome it is. Plus, I want to thank our sponsors: Persnickety Prints, Down this Road Designs, Stolen Moments, Everyday Storyteller, and, of course, Meredith Cardall.
DST: You’re busy planning the next Digi Night Out. Any details?
Lynnette: It’ll be Saturday, September 8, 2012. Tickets are now on sale for our early bird price of $8 (US), but that will only last until July 31 – so hurry! We’ll be announcing our featured designer and all the other details very soon. Interested scrappers can stay tuned via our newsletter and by following Digi Night Out on Facebook and Twitter.
Thanks, Lynnette! So, are you inspired to put together your own digital-scrapbooking event? Have you ever met other digital scrapbookers in real life or attended a digital-scrapbooking retreat? Share your thoughts and experiences in this thread in the forum!

I was one of the lucky gals who was able to attend this event, and it was so much fun! Thanks so much Lynnette for planning such a fun evening for all of us. I’m excited about attending more events in the future.
